very wobbly and harsh .... had fifteen minutes on one at a Steelwrist day some time ago ... was long enough - travel was on/offHas anyone used this wee Volvo duck ? Just wondering what they are like ?
What do you mean by on /off Graham ? Sharp ? Bound to be a bit bobbly with the king postvery wobbly and harsh .... had fifteen minutes on one at a Steelwrist day some time ago ... was long enough - travel was on/off![]()
travel was literally on/off ... touch the pedal and it came in bang - stopped the same ... really did not like it ... there's wobbly and then there's oh sh*t ... I've had plenty of practise on rubber and like to think I'm pretty smooth, but that little thing was butt clenchingWhat do you mean by on /off Graham ? Sharp ? Considering changing the Komatsu for something smaller that my right hand man might not be so nervous off but sounds like that might be worse !!! What the smallest side boom duck around just now ?travel was literally on/off ... touch the pedal and it came in bang - stopped the same ... really did not like it ... there's wobbly and then there's oh sh*t ... pity, 'cos in principle it'd be a nice thing in tight spots .... at reach it is a REAL balancing act
got some pix somewhere but can't find the damned things ATM
you need to try one ... you'm a duck man - it's an education
answered your own Q there Vin .. just have to find a nice oneConsidering changing the Komatsu for something smaller that my right hand man might not be so nervous off but sounds like that might be worse !!! What the smallest side boom duck around just now ?
I had a lot of time on and also owned an ex100wd hitachi . It was the best duck I’ve ever driven by a country mile . They also did a 6 tonne version with side boom but seems to be gone out of favour now . One of them would be very nicely balanced if they still made something similar

I haven’tif you've got the money i'd bet the mecalac is the most 'planted'
Yeah me neither, as much as i dont like takeuchis as a rule i did have a day on a 290w i think it was, wasnt a bad thing to be fair to it, i rarely get on a duck nowadays and found it very easy to drive. was painfully slow on the road thoI haven’t![]()
bang on ... didn't like the Mec boom one bit, either at their demo day a while back ... rest was impressiveThe volvo is very bouncy I had a go on the same one as gra and theres one locally that I've seen working and had a quick go on it was very similar and the lad on it was being thrown around. I don't think the tyres help either
The old ew100 wacker is a lovely machine if you can find one in budget.
The new one is even better but the computer is very much in control
The mecalac is lovely and planted very low and pushes like a dozer and is brilliant with pallet forks but the demo one I had was already showing rust I couldn't get the hang of the mecalac boom (though very good for working in low headroom) and it felt short of reach for its size
but at what cost Vin??This looks interesting , amalgamation between liebherr and kubota . 9.5 or 11.5 tonne options . Both side booms .

They look quite good but the whole of the arm is hanging on the front . I’d just prefer a side boom really . Just hardly any made now sub 10 tonne .but at what cost Vin??
find yourself one of these
or these but rarer
