I don't mean all extensions. There is very obviously a time and a place for extensions.
But we have a few projects at the moment that I cannot fathom any financial sense from. And can only come to the conclusion that there is a lot more money floating around than most of us give credit for.
Maybe if you take stamp duty location, solicitors etc people can't be bothered with moving even though maybe it makes more sense

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
If you own multiply properties the stamp duty is horrendous on moving lots think we paid £30k+ on a 600k house because we have a few renters as well that my wife used to live in 1. They would not class it as her primary dwelling even though it is! So you get hit with 2nd home tax etc.

Slightly smaller house 8 doors down from me just sold for £890k albeit detached.
you do have 3 years in which to reclaim the extra/over on the second home duty though Giles .. 'least you do in Wales, if you sell the non-primary/one you moved out of, in that time--stuffed if you don't though
Vicki's 'move' cost me nigh on £14k on top of the std £6k, which I sincerely hope I will get back, when her old place sells, within the 3 years. All the neighbours around it can not believe it hasn't sold yet - 's a cheap enough hutch with a new £6k boiler and a new £20k conservatory in a nice quiet spot ...:mad:

This isn't even commercial jobs. Just people putting extensions on their own properties as a very expensive and long winded route to gaining very little. Maybe I'm just very callous but all the expense to stay in the family home rather than sell and buy what you really want is beyond me.

Kirsty and phil have a lot to answer for

Yeah but we’ve kept it and it makes almost £15k in rent a year

Been making a bit of progress on the house . We got the wall plate down on the first day and all the wall panels up the following day then we put up some scaffold and we put up the trusses . Joiners been sarking the roof since as I’ve been off on a job elsewhere .

Happy new year to all here on the forum !
I just about got over the line at the end of the year this year rather stagger over it in a blaze of Dubliners and Guinness . First time I can remember a sober Hogmanay !
Health seems to off finally taken a slight turn in the right direction today . I have a few new year appointments etc now and can’t drive for a couple weeks but I can cope with that . I’ve managed to get out of the house which is great for the head even if it is only to get a Starbucks while Mrs P returns all the Xmas presents I lovingly bought her .

Work on the house has been not happening since we finished for Xmas but that’s not entirely all bad as we were aiming at a couple of weeks drying out period .

Chris the heating engineer was trying to get the Veissmann heat pump installed before he went on hols on the 23rd . He nearly managed it and left me with a few UFH zones to turn on slowly . I got 25% of them going before I ended up in A&E and Mrs P got the rest on whilst I was in hospital . This was good news as we have 2 commercial dehumidifiers going and an air mover which is drying the place out nicely . The Ames taping due to start 6-7th Jan and that’ll take a couple of weeks .

It’s now had all the windows and doors installed , insulation is in , first fix plumbing and heating is done and the plasterboard is done all bar a couple of wee bits .
I will take a few more pics as soon as I get chance of inside .
We now have snow on the ground and freezing temps so as frustrating as it is to be off work and not doing anything , I couldn’t just now anyway.
