It’s in the highlands of Scotland . 99.9 percent of builds are timber frame here . You’d be going out on a limb to build double skin blockwork !Where in the World is this and what made you choose timber frame?

I think the percentage in the highlands would be way higher , maybe a few builders in central belt building double skin block .My Dad built our family bungalow himself from timber frame about 1970. Back in the day you could pay TRADA to do the calcs for the span you mentioned earlier. They did that and he made all the trusses himself by hand on site, instead of the gangnail plates over the joints it was plywood gussets with lots of galv nails in them. It was also a single span like yours, in theory you could take all the internal walls down and rearrange the whole set out if you wanted.
The roof was decked (sarking) with ply too like a Scottish build, although I can't see it on yours.
Then a stone mason brought the outer skin up in re-dressed York stone. Central heating was by hot air circulation via ducts he made himself.
It all did very well too, gave no issues over the years, but the insulation value will be lower than it is today, even though it was over-spec at the time.
Sorry, seeing your build brought back some memories!
Only about 23% of English new builds are timber framed, you would have thought it higher by now, 83% Scottish.
Joiner by trade (hence the housebuild), same as me, but I got into other things maybe 20yrs ago now. Back then they didn't give you a day off to go to college, he had to go on a Saturday!I think the percentage in the highlands would be way higher , maybe a few builders in central belt building double skin block .
I think Barrats done timber frame a lot of harm in the 80s and the English timber frame has never really recovered from it .
I’d of liked to got the craic with your Father , he knew what he was doing ! What was his trade ?
AwesomeAs usual I’ve not updated this thread for ages so here we go . We moved in at the end of May , Mrs P was getting tired of caravan living by then so she pushed the agenda . Since then we’ve been doing gardens and fencing etc.

always fancied the tin top version (IMHDO they're better looking than the rag top) ...View attachment 76376
Also forgot to say I picked this up 18months ago . A cousin of mine was selling it . I couldn’t commit anytime to it so I bought it 50/50 with my architect pal and he stored it . It’s needing a few wee jobs but on the whole it’s really tidy and only done 60k . It’s got a 4.0 v8 in it and sounds superb ! The storage option is now over so I needed to take it home so me and Mrs p picked it up on Saturday . Should be a bit of fun !
It’s not bad , feckin mouse done a wee but damage inside but thankfully to bits that are easily replaced . It was stuck in 4th in auto box when we got it but that’s sorted now . Drivers electric seat won’t move though so that’s my first task to sort outalways fancied the tin top version (IMHDO they're better looking than the rag top) ... have very nearly pulled the trigger on a few over the years - one day I'll find one nice enough
that looks exceedingly cared for
