A couple of lads around me have Fastracs - big Cummins engines sound mega!

There's a lad that goes into the feed mill near us ...in an old fastrac with straight stainless...coming out under heavy load and right foot sounds ace

To get suspension you sacrifice some of the weight transfer ability of conventional tractors meaning draft implements are harder to pull. Also equal size wheels increase turning circle. View of implements is poor. Suspension leads to poor stability with mounted implements.
I believe it has never been a rule that there has to be a physical link, it's just that there has to be a fail safe system and positive link which traditional hydraulic systems don't meet.
There are hydraulic systems that meet the specification though.
With a tractor or dumper if you turn the steering wheel to full lock you can carry on turning the wheel albeit slowly, the steering wheel position also drifts as you drive and you need to constantly readjust your hold .This is the problem I believe. The proper pumps won't allow that to happen.

Raft of electric stuff coming with fly by wire steering. Afaik they need two motors etc to meet regs.

Tractors in general definitely don’t have a direct link (and aren’t legally allowed to go more than 20mph, which may be related?). Big self-propelled chippers also cannot possibly have a direct link as the cabs lift and rotate (and they go really fast, at least 50mph!).
Ducks are allowed on the road and they certainly don’t have a direct link either…

The new fastracs drive very nicely! It’s like a full fat Range Rover on steroids, just abit slower! I think id buy one over a McLaren with a lottery win

This is the problem with the influx of the Chinese brands, people are tempered by the cheapness but do you just pay for it when you come to sell instead.... It will take a while to change mindset over the mainstream brands when coming to resale. Interestingly my TB216 is not a machine id consider one of Takeuchis finest moments but they still hold their value well because of the Takeuchi brand behind it...
