worst 'snow run' ever was Hindhead in Surrey, back to Aber., boxing day '77 or '78 - can't recall which ... usually a 2-3/4hr trip -- took nigh on 7 hours .. was the only car on the M4 - ferk knows how we managed it .. the A roads to the M4, Surrey end were something else -- so was the M4 -- Hillman Hunter Holbay GLS - it did well that day --- young and nuts

17 year old me decided taking my mums Golf TDI over wrynose pass would be possible early one winters morming..to get to the crags for a days winter climbing .
🫣 Ferk after a very long descent as a mere passenger looking out the back window we bottled it and walked up. If you know the road you'll know we came very close to flying in it

Good memories when no one is hurt. I remember doing a pirouette with a Mk3 escort estate and a trailer on ice. Bad enough anything on ice, add a trailer and it really spices things up

I nearly got caught out on Friday morning-down the hill out the yard, big digger on the plant trailer behind the disco.
Hit a patch of ice about 30 yards long, just started sliding. Gently steered for the rough ground near the hedge, while praying nothing came the other way!
Had many hours of fun towing cars up that hill, trick is to use a very long rope, and drive down to them, not reverse- sliding is bad enough, sliding blind is worse!

There's nothing I like about this picture no thumb, never mind a grab, no chainsaw, blackthorn branches going in every direction, ground like porridge and a cab on the digger when I must have been in and out 50 times today

Not really being serious- it's better than using a hand rake which is the other job going on here

anyone know what that grass plant is called ? ... got loads of 'em springing up here .... grow to be quite an attractive plant and get to about 6ft tall

At least it lowers a good way then. The one on my case was crap. Barely lifted the machine 4" off the ground

All told, this machine is a very good fit for my sort of work. She lifts well, and the aux controls are responsive. Blade has excellent travel as you mention. THe tracking is much improved with the 580mm steels as it doesn't dig in nearly so much, but it's still underpowered for the tracking IMHO.

I can't complain for the money though. Just clocked 635 hours.

I'm very glad I kept the 4 way blade- I need to make some extensions and probably a taller spill guard whilst I'm at it. The electric control for the blade is nasty though- no feel whatsoever on the up/down.

Annoyingly two suitable Intermecato grabs and rotators came up for 3.5k locally a 10 months after I bought mine new. I needed it for the job though.

Maybe a touch more than that with the other bits I've bought

Digger 29.5k
Rotator 4k (can be plumbed for a grapple saw in future though)
Hitch 1.5k
Grapple 3.5k
Tilt bucket and ripper 2.5k
Tracks i think around 3.5, not had the bill yet

So around 45k.

Just need a 5k tilty for her now.... makes that '100k digger' on FB look like the joke it/he is!

It was only the bit in the picture, 5 minutes with the machine and half hour carrying it round to the fire by hand. A chainsaw really would have been nice though.
Unlike the guys (nothing to do with us) in the next field who have been doing thumb/grab activities with a grading bucket for 2 days

Been doing a spot of clearance myself as it happens. Just clearing a fence line so I can get a fence up.

And folk laugh at yanks but hardly ever see a machine over there without a thumb

People often say to me they don't own machines because it's so cheap to hire- yeah great untill you actually want to do something other than dig!
