That was the first week when we dug the first 3 foundations. He apparently used to be a driving instructor. I did tell him he could drive the dumper a bit quicker!!

that is a LOT of spoil ... how many dumper loads .... took 600+ out of mine and they were well loaded

Let's face it when is a dumper ever afforded a sympathetic load!

Not posted anything lately but been beavering away on a site for 10 new dwellings with the 8 ton kobelco. Been digging a hole for an attenuation tank. 27.5m long x 11.50m wide and around 1.2m deep. Spoil going into a 6 ton dumper and moved about 50m. Hard clay. It has taken me by surprise as to how long it has taken.
Any guesses to upset me?!

About 1000ton .. it would be a steady week on a site? Guessing your able to loose the muck on site?

I reckoned on 7 days, 7hrs, 4x 6ton loads an hour moving 1200 ton total.

How are you finding the 19-c? Seems to be a decent spec machine actually offered at a realistic price? Something I can't find is does the auxiliary circuit and offset ram share the same circuit- IE do you have to switch between the two?

I find it’s got plenty of power, there’s a big difference between it and the E17 I have. I haven’t used the aux yet but there is a pedal for each. There are no track pedals either and no factory option for them but my dealer has sourced me a set.

Ah ok. I thought the aux were on the joysticks. Also seen a photo that had a set of pedals but shame they aren't as standard. The one I saw had no pedals on the floor at all aside from track pedals so assumed they were all like that..

Busy week on cut and collect whilst the weather is good.

Poxy alpine has s**t the bed again. Air con failed for second time and then yesterday a steering pipe blew. For a ‘premium’ brand (it’s the premium of all alpine tractors) it’s not doing great. Very glad I got a five year warranty. When it works it’s just the tool for the job, and I should easily do the 3000 hours of the warranty in five years.


So Kubota and some flatter ground today.

Ballasted with water as we come up with concrete about 600mm in there at the moment

A question… if the ground is that bad, what happens when you pull the box and everything caves into the side of the tank…. Because normally on manholes etc you’d shutter the rings in & concrete before removing the box?
Are you lifting and backfilling at the same time?

Or you’d have sheet piles and pull them out after back filling..
abit of a chicken/egg situation?

Lean mix and it should escape ?

I’d concrete rd it with some celotex etc lining bottom of box then fill with gravel and lift in stages until you’ve only a 1m left etc

We kept the box up on 4 ledges so it was approx 600 up, then backfilled further up again, the grd surprisingly held but we were more concerned about getting the base in level and flat safely
