Well that was a good debate but did get a bit too personal for a while. Goes to show if youve got a good command of the language you could argue black was white. I'm agreeing with the Druid on this one based on the unfair playing field that we are up against and cross industry work that shouldn’t be happening .

Think most of us agree with Gra. Not too many of us support Agricultural Haulage of Plant & Paraphernalia.

If I want to know how much my trailers can carry, I just lend them out.

my 3m x 1.5m trailer would have the wheels splayed flat if you filled it - 's why it only ever gets lent to ppl I really know ... was built to use up a screw up on some beam axles that'd been supplied wrong and I had/kept 'em for silly money, rather than return them - running gear is no where near man enough for the body size - but as it was for me - I know that ..... 's only 1800kgs gross

I'm sure I've told this story before but here goes, my ifor TT 1055 with mesh high sides has been a handy tool, and occasionally my BIL borrows it. I turned round to him one day and said. I can't believe how good the battery is on the hydraulic tip motor, I don't think I've had to charge it in a year and a half. To which he turned and looked at me and said every effin time I've used it I've had to charge the battery. Oops I believe they charge off the light plug now though.

Both tbf, Westminster has hell of a lot to answer for, but as current laws / regs Druid is right unfair competition

The mudguards are designed to aim it, not contain it.

I thought you were playing devils advocate for a while , either way some things you said did make me think a wee bit . I’m certainly no fan of westminsters attitude towards our industry .

Aim it away from the front window.

A well known plant firm here never fitted any of his machines with front mud gaurds...2 reasons...1, numpty driver ripping them off and 2, when it goes on self drive and they flick a stone up and smash the windows they get a nice big bill.

Yes but rather than just letting it be a free for all relaxation should be implemented in a reasonable manor. Either make it easier to run a commercial vehicle or legislate running a tractor so that the setups are sensible. Better designed trailers (turntables like the Europeans use, better positioning of axles, abs, proper air brakes and axles as alot of trailers still run agricultural setups not commercial) better spec of tractors ( proper tyres with stiffer sidewalls running higher pressures, abs better brakes case new holland particular have woefully under rated breaks, front brakes and so on ) and a sensible limit. Realistically a lot of setups the tractors are to small, and a 13t excavator is really getting on to be to big for tractors on our roads. But then I think alot of the trailers being run are dangerously large and are the tail wagging the dog. Transfer trailers for agriculture in the field are definitely the way forwards and are becoming more popular. Even if they were to transfer to a tractor and trailer better specced for the road it would be an improvement

Not on days when they have been twats....lace it all down the main road. They spend an extra hour and half cleaning it up.

Did it one that pissed me off they were there til 7pm that night cleaning the road in a posh area. I know that's not a lie either as they'd employed a lad I know well n he got the overtime in and told me how pissed off the bloke was. All that because I told them I need 1/2hr on site washing off but they wanted me working til the end (they were working back to front too) so I just proved a point. Petty maybe but they had me back week after week and gave me time to wash off and leave with no mess.

As said before, knock the O license requirements for lorries under 13t on the head, double the Ministry testing to every 6 months and encourage ownership of small lorry's and you will instantly see a improvement in road safety with a majority of pickup and trailer and transit van overloading disappearing overnight.

The tractor question is more complicated unfortunately.

what's its theoretical capacity ?? looks a handy sized tipper

Ifor TT2515. 5ftx8ft 2700kg total.. think I weighed it once and its about 700kg with mesh sides. We bought it for being compliant behind FWD Transits, Think it was about 2.8K new. Probably 4.5K to replace? Something a bit bigger with 3500kg would be nice now we have Dmax, but the 8x5 is a useful size for the lads to frape around with as it's always running within the vans shadow so you can forget its there when travelling forwards.
