do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
you can get your broaches re-sharpened Doob - cheaper than new ones, unless it's absolutely bollo-ed ...... used to use an outfit called Maltby Punch and Die for big broaches and punches & dies for the Kingsland steelworker .. were always well priced .. two brothers Russel and Charles De SilvaWidened the top jaw on my quick hitch. It takes a lot of abuse being used with a grab and post knocker, plus Whites hadn’t welded it square in the first place. 30mm spiraband in a die grinder was just what the doctor had ordered for matching the two sides up. Then wrung the last bit of life out of a poor 30mm rota roach bit and welded before dressing with the spiraband as required. I also built up and dressed the edges of the plate where it had worn.
Most of the play was in fact coming from two tiny dimples of wear on the main sliding face, a five minute weld and grind job with no disassembly required- but widening the jaw will certainly help and I feel better for having done it. Things like the cone splitter are particularly bad for it.
If I had my time again I’d be all S30 but such is life.View attachment 41226View attachment 41227View attachment 41228View attachment 41229View attachment 41230
