Unless to nip the jaws in for smaller size it means the bigger stuff won't go in I'm not sure crushing twice to get down to the size you want is anything other than a good way to burn more fuel and time.
I've tried both ways with crusher bucket and going straight down to size you want works out quicker.

The man who does my crushing usually runs it through twice if I want 40mm down. He pays for the fuel in the crusher so I guess he does do it for fun.

I have just remembered what he said. If you run it through twice it only crushes what is bigger than 40mm. The rest falls through. If you crush it down to 40mm at the start it slows the output. So chuck it all through at 100mm then chuck it all through again at 40mm. I guess it also depends on material and the crusher.

Basically it appears faster because its going through quicker but in reality isn't is what I've found tbh. Also if its not bone dry the fines tend to bind and slow it down.

Im thinking around ten 8 wheelers.
The bay that the pile starts in holds an 8 wheeler load, spilling out of the front a little.
It’s cost around £2500 to do, based upon what I hire men and machines out at plus the hire charge for the crusher and op (he loaded using my machine). Had I kept the tip pile in a bit better order then it would probably have been £2k. Really it needs the big lumps breaking up a touch before pushing the heap up, but that hasn’t happened over the first year. It will going forward, and I’ll also make sure reinforced posts and gravel boards are kept out.
Type 1 recycled (which is good gear) is £440 a lorry here. I’d value this at £350 a lorry, we pay £280 a lorry for crushed concrete which often is more mud than concrete
. So if I have ten lorry’s in my pile that’s £3500 worth.It wouldn’t be worth getting concrete tipped to crush it for that margin, but given that I’ve already charged good money to remove it from jobs, it’s a winner for me.

Old boy that used to crush the waste Elvan stone from South crofty mine to sell said years ago to choke the crusher to get a better even crush as nothing tries to jump around and drop through un crushed
Like a 30mm concrete slab if your set at 40mm and gets the right way will pass through and out to the pile of crush so if you keep the jaws fed full everything gets crushed

Nice straight even pile be easy to cube instead of weight. Tbh dry crush isn't heavy compared to quarried type 1 so as is it would be surprising how much an 8 wheeler would hold.
