He'd be more productive if he had the tracks the right way for the job, or a better suited machine to the task following on the trim (20t long reach)

A tilty will reduce load capacity on a machine that size drastically. And in price per cube cost it'll be more detrimental than multiple pass completion.

Right, so you have a cut that is beyond the effective working depth of the excavator (I'd say by the photo they are cutting the batter from both top and bottom).
Efficiencies wise, you require the biggest bucket possible on a bulking job running short cycle times and firing the muck into the dumpers and away. Now you can Cut to profile in one pass, however dependent on the situation and cycle time requirements it's often better to chase the lead (Bulk) machine with a suitable trimming unit, be it a Blade/Grader (for large cuts) or a smaller excavator on these sorts of batters.
With diesel the way it is, the economics of running a Bulk digger flat out moving as much gear as possible, whilst a smaller unit trims in one pass have never been better. No point having a thirsty 40t machine pissing about with trucks being loaded slowly because the driver is busy trying to trim up.... Get the Muck moved, let a more fuel efficient tool trim.

I’ve done similar jobs from the end with a trapezoidal bucket, no guidance. You trim as you go. I’ve also seen, but not used, trapezoidal buckets with added wings so the machine more or less pulls along the centre line to trim full depth in one hit. Wouldn’t work too well in rocks, though. That ground looks similar to conditions in a lot of the Fens, whereabouts is it? Somerset levels?

It’s not as nice ground as it looks - it’s an old tip full of casting sand, slag and all manner of lovelyness!!!

Well Thursday drive home after work was interesting threw my phone on the dash clocks of van where it accidentally turned on my dosimeter then that went nuts the whole way home
Reading at the highest 9.2 microservants where normal background levels are 0.12 ish or around there and the alarm goes off at 0.30
Must have been a hot bit of rock in the ground where I dug a trench and so dirt had got stuck in a flap on sole of boot that was make my dosimeter kick off
It had a short half life as mostly gone by late evening

No where near there down Penzance way this is
But have been there to the gate way of the mine and dosimeter goes ape s**t just at the gate way on a public road
Mine did come from Kiev Ukraine before current issues

And a whole host of sulphides that make acidic water
But other than that everything is peachy

The landscaping on one I'm working on is around 250k with added radiation
