Baffles me why standard hitches can't be made with lower build height. Or is due to s type being longer and wider so there's more room in the middle to fit the workings in? I mean you could just widen bucket ears to get hitch lower?

Pretty much, it means you don't have the same room for springs etc, plus the ram stroke etc.
We are currently working on a pin grabber to but it still won't be as low as an S type

Sorry to jump in here since it's not a "job" comment but I have been meaning to ask about quick hitches for the JCB 8018
I just bought. I have seen comments about spring hitches vs. a Harford pro-lock, with the pro-lock being more secure, less wear prone.
I see hurricane makes a manual S30 unit, how does it compare with a pro-lock.

I used a spring lock today for 1st time in years, what a bag of shite looser than a tarts knickers and only 1200 hrs on the clock

Love my S30 hitch as it also tilts and rotates!!
