THE SCAM THREAD

Great pics @Komatsu. In this throw away culture we now find ourselves in, I think it would be good if more of the population realised exactly what does happen to their waste when they "put it in the bin". The scale and effort that clearly goes into making these tips that will be there for 1000's of years really makes you think.

Its so far removed from the work I do but I would love the chance to try a dozer out. And dig a proper sized hole one day..... Maybe I could start a gold mine with a few mates ;)
Thanks Ollie, it’s a shame there weren’t camera phones around then, could of got some more. The hard work was done by the lads who used to place the tyres in the cell before they went down the shredded tyre route, artic after artic a day were bought in, curtain sides pulled back and then all pushed out sidewards with a telehandler, those boys could graft for 12 hours a day, and they covered some ground.

Look at this link. Shows the kind of penalty these lot face. Before getting to end of article I thought 5 years would be fair for first offence but then thought they'd only serve 2 and half

I can never understand how handling the proceeds of crime is not punished when it is so easy for the police to catch and courts to convict. If they gave them proper sentences it may deter others. Every one of these financial scammers must move the money through a bank account. If they are in this country why don’t the account owners get hammered. To open an account you have to produce loads of proper ID, so even the police should be able to track most of these people down.

If you prosecuted the money launders every time and publicised that you will prosecute everyone who lets people use their bank accounts for this it may make people think twice.

There are ways of setting up a UK bank account without a UK address
There is a website
I don't know the full details but was shown it by some of the foreign blokes I work with
All very sketchy but seems to work as they all have bank accounts and none of them have fixed addresses

That is well dodgy. My daughter wanted to open a current account recently and had to have a fave to face meeting and show proper forms of ID and address confirmation before she could get them to open the account.
It is aiding the scammers if you don't do the checks properly. The banks should bare some liability if they don't know their customers, infact I think it is law they have to. I remember some time ago I had contact from my bank saying they would close my accounts if I didn't send them ID and I have had the account for years.

I wonder how many fake tickets are out there? Rather makes a mockery of the ticket system if they are easily available on the black market.
I guessed there would be fake cards, but didn't know that real cards actually on the system would be easily available.
