Afew examples…
Neighbours of ours got up on feed wagon to cut wrap of round bale, slipped and ended up inside feeder wagon cut up as feed!

Other lad id employed to empty slurry store at our farm, found a photo on his Facebook that evening of tractor tootling down the field with slurry tanker going.. him not in the cab but stood in the field taking a photo of it!! Safe to say he never got offered any more work!!

Mate moved a trailer in his yard but didn’t bother pulling the hitch up to latch trailer on,. Trailer came off and smashed into side of his backhoe taking wheel /track rod out etc!

I could go on…. We all do stupid stuff but it’s just more common on farms and mostly fatal I’m afraid!

I'm not innocent I must admit. When in new Zealand, I was told multiple times how many fatalities they have from the inline wrappers each year, and to switch the engine off before working on it. A piece of wrap knotted round a sensor and stopped it so I wriggled underneath to pull the wrap loose, without turning the engine off. As I cleared the sensor it trigged the machine start up. I got absolutely battered by wrap carriers and managed to wriggle sideways just quick enough to not get run over. The wrap carriers where mounted at an angle so the front of the carrier has maybe 10in clearance to the ground, this is where I was. The back of the carrier has 6in clearance, if I had ended up under the back of the carrier I would not have have come back out.

Although construction now has taken it far to far that people have stopped thinking for themselves.

That's another factor, autonomous/sensor operated equipment.

Construction tends to have sensors to stop equipment.... Both agriculture and waste have sensors to start machines when a load is fed in.... Particularly balers in waste.

There have been plenty of fatalitys due to this..... Operative enters baler chamber without LOTO or shutting down, stands up, trips the sensor and the baler springs to life crushing them to death.

Many years ago friend's brother opened the door to a feed bin, climbed in and kicked the last of the feed sat on the floor inside, into the screw auger, feeding it out the bin to the pig sheds ... auger took his foot .. and then the rest of him, slowly ... must've been a horrific end and so needless

Just put it in a pickup truck ffs, it would be
quicker and probably cheaper on the diesel. I know it’s only back roads and very little actual risk, I think it’s the ‘farmer mentality’ that bothers me.

I think the most stupid thing is the lack of trying and they will complain when they get legislated. That trailer is well over due a meeting with a gas torch. A clean painted trailer with lights and a tailgate would attract half as much attention

No care given about trying to be legal. A light board is £20 and a ratchet strap even less. If you can’t be bothered to do the basics then you shouldn’t be on the the road with any vehicle.

Crazy thing is thats a say £75k tractor dragging a pile of s**t. Never makes sense to me
See it all time round here .
150k fastrac with a 40 year old pile of crap low loader...or bale trailer.

So in all honesty I have zero issues with said pile of crap trailer..... And it comes down to the use.

If it was loaded to the bollox with soil, or had a stack of straw on it then yes, entirely wrong.

As it stands you can see the rear lights, numberplate and it's obviously not being dragged along an A road at 60mph...... The only iffy thing is the mesh in the back but in all honesty no difference to putting a wheelbarrow loose in a transit.

It's all relative.... And in all honesty safety than most boat trailers.
