I've got a power cut going on at home just now , second time a few months and is not due back on until 1/2/22 so few days, it's a pain. Have been considering getting a backup generator setup installed, I've got a genny and a suicide cable at the moment but not ideal

i have just purchased a standby genny ,8ka ,has all the switchgear for auto changeover and auto start when power goes off
Nice one
Biggest issue is where your incomer/DB is located IMO, mines in a hallway with no easy access to outside right PITA
The ones on the outside box are ideal. With a breaker after the meter its a doddle of a job to sort a feed to a 32 or 63a type wall inlet
Changeover obviously ideal but if you in a hurry it's doable.
This last bunch of storms must be making a lot of folks think about it, decent 6kva plus Genny's ain't much money for the hassle if you live in the sticks. Quiet as anything some of the new silenced stuff. Got a petrol silenceded Loncin 6kva at work which is surprisingly good. Diesel my preference tho.

properly set up and fully functional it'd be my preference .... can't beat a lungful of flame down the inlet on a cold morning ... really kicks 'em in the guts
had a York 6 pot in an old RR and that had three heaters in the manifold ..... used to leap into life and they were known as bad cold starters
healthy batteries and starter also play a big role (y)
Yes I had an old Volvo F6 with a large heater in the inlet - started first time every time ;)
Been cleaning up the old thing this afternoon and after the grime was removed found this thingy....
IMG_6854.jpeg

......it's got a capillary pipe going under the engine up to the inlet manifold. Any ideas how I use the little bugger?
Looks like I'll have to pour sone kind of juice into it. That button marked "Start Pilot" is some sort of plunger pump

Yep been doing that with my old 2.2kVa petrol Genny for more than 10 years now 😈
Thing is old buggers like me think they know what they are doing.
Hasn't stopped the neighbours popping round to charge their phones and heat up baby milk when they see our lights on :ROFLMAO:

You have an easy start type liquid in the reservoir part, and unscrew the knob and pump it.

Could it be a similar setup to the "ki gas" system on grey fergies amongst others?

Pump it while cranking.
I have heard of people emptying a can of easy start into the reservoir, and using that

Do you want another FL6?

And that's for Ether, used to come in ping pong type capsules.... most MOD stuff had the option.

Off here now as well . Only meant to be 50mph according to forecast . The equipment doesn’t take much of a blow

That..and
Don't cut trees down says the greenies...bad for the environment says the greenies...fk u says the wind 🖕

Thing is theoretically the grid owner has a statutory right to deal with trees in there ROW.....

From what I heard the last storm brought entire sections of line down...... but I must'nt say too much in the open.
