Someone needs to remind me that I'm not a Groundworker
Another mate of mine say, "can you bring your digger round and sort out my driveway"
IMG_2998.jpeg

A few years ago he had some guys fill in the original front garden to park his Mitsubishi Shotgun on.....
IMG_2999.jpeg

Trouble is the haunching was absolute crap/non existent - so it let go causing this massive slippage :ROFLMAO:
IMG_3007.jpeg

So I know a thing about string lines......
IMG_3010.jpeg

......and gave it some strong concrete bedding and haunching today before it pissed down 🌧 ;)
IMG_3012.jpeg

I'd been home about 2 minutes, kettle on in the barn, and Terry turns up.
He's my 84yr off neighbour opposite. See him most days. Retired coach operator.
Knows something about everything. He was straight on to cleaning my mixer properly 🥰

So, when I get a day or tow of dry weather thins week, I'll be back to relay the blocks on a nice new bed of sharp
Poxy groundwerk stuff :poop::ROFLMAO:

Last month we had our Broadband and Phone line sorted out and I know that you will be interested in this Graham @V8Druid :geek:
We live in a very rural location and the phone lines come from a cabinet in the next village just over a mile away and about 3.5 miles from the exchange.
The phone and broadband in recent years have been absolute crap :poop: and both dropping out randomly especially when it rains 🤬
Our ISP is BT Internet and they have got magically better at listening to our complaints if recent years.
This has included refunds when we can prove that they have failed to deliver ;)
We have continuously logged our interest in FFTP.
August 2019 saw them run the fibre cable along the grass verges and up the poles
IMG_1160.jpeg
.
Then in March 2020 contractor came to run the fibre cables up the pole to the outlet box.
Had a chat, "No mate, we can't do it because of all this ivy and brambles. Openreach were supposed to have cleared this for us." 🤬
R - "Leave it with me I'll sort it right now" :ROFLMAO:
So with the help of Mr Stihl and a rip all the brambles and ivy was removed and they did the connection.

Another 6 months went by before my ISP emailed me that FFTP was available
Immediately ordered it

Two fellas rocked up from Openreach both called Ryan :p
Kept them supplied with coffee and biscuits and what a superb job was done
IMG_2841.jpeg

New fibre cable which also has a pair of copper wires run from pole to facia.
IMG_2842.jpeg

Ryan even raised the drop wire so that tipper lorries can drop stuff on our drive :p

IMG_2847.jpeg

Fibre splicing kit. Ryan describes himself as a Master Technician for doing this fiddly process.
Seen him locally recently and he has proved this by fixing other techies cock ups;)

IMG_2839.jpeg

This is the kit in the hall. New BT Smart Hub 2 with repeater in the conservatory.
Openreach modem on the wall.
All this now reside on the oak corner table hiding all but the Hub ;)

IMG_2848.png

New speed to my iPhone via WiFi :)
Screenshot 2020-10-13 at 08.53.39.png

New speed to my iMac desktop machine via Ethernet connection this morning :)

So there you have it guys. As Sharon says, "It's more about the reliability than anything else" (y)
The speed is superb, have subscribed to the usual TV and music streaming services

Very jealous..there's 4 of us at the end of our lane...I'm the last pole.. must be at least 2 mile from the box let alone the exchange. I get 12mb at very best doubt we shall ever get anything better.😭

We are lucky that we have full fibre direct to the house. 300 upload and download. Previously had 1 on a good day.
All of the screens in the photo where streaming along with 2 others in the house.
Saturday football had never been so good!!

You may well do if you sign up for Broadband in rural Lancashire and badger those in charge of the roll out :p

SWMBO would NEVER allow me 2 screens in the Lounge.
Currently having a battle trying to get a smart TV in the dinning room.
WTF - I wanna watch TV while eating my breakfast ;)

this is after 9 engineers' efforts and months of pratting about, new phone sockets, new router, multiple re-makes of joints and junctions (even dug two up to check them) and a lot of to-ing and fro-ing ...
Josh Wood from SSE has been a hero in his pursuit of Openreach to try to get this sorted .....
it still drops pages regularly, but the BB hasn't vanished in over 6 days now .....
we're 2.55 miles from the local exchange ......

Josh has an open invitation to call in for a cuppa - anytime he is in the area :giggle:

Yes always best to look after the technicians Graham :)
The Openreach guys are really struggling to get broadband down yer phone wires.
Are you signed up for a VDSL service?
The results you are getting is what we were getting with the old ADSL service:oops:
The other thing that will cause real problems for you is the ping delay.
This will cause problems with the ISPs DNS servers - the virtual phone directory when you request a web site :p
To solve this about 2 years ago I replaced BTs crappy HomeHub6 with a third party Modem/Router
Used a TP-Link AC1600 which kept us going until fibre was installed :geek:

In the meantime keep banging the drum for fibre rollout to your rural community.
There may even be a Broadband Champion in your area
Good luck ;)

I'm hoping 5g is rolled out near me by end of 12 month contract of my mobile Wi-Fi. Then I can choose between that and fixed line.

So this weekend I decided to check over the brakes on my trusty old FLT.
Some of you will, especially Graham @V8Druid will know that I have an ex hire Hyster H50H in my yard :p
It's given me 8 years great service and given regular oil and filer changes etc.
BUT, the brakes have been snatching on in recent months.......

IMG_3025.jpeg

Pulling the left drum off revealed that the self adjuster was slack. Plenty of meat n the brake shoes. Slight weep under the wheel cylinder rubbers - to be done soon.
Workshop manual spoke about poking a screwdriver through the slot at the back etc rotating the adjuster.
HTF can do that with all that mast metal in the way - so I made a special screwdriver :ROFLMAO:
The brake pedal was now right at the top of travel and not snatching on.
Did you know that the tilt will jack these beasts up on blocks so you can spin yer wheel(s) to test and take wheels off etc :geek:

Then I did something stupid - while I've got me tools out, I'll check the other side (right).
Jacking and spinning revealed that the brakes were totally ineffective on the right side:eek:

IMG_3026.jpeg

Whipping off the wheel and drum revealed a sticky oily mess from a leaking wheel cylinder. 🤬
This photo was taken after a jet wash with TFL and it's still wet.

IMG_0995.jpeg

Then my brother popped round this afternoon and gave it the once over - he spotted that the bundy tubing brake pipe at the rear of the wheel cylinder had been crushed

So have just managed to order a pair of wheel cylinders from these guys:
L S Forklifts Ltd
Great web site which even list stuff for my old FLT :)

Guess what I'll be doing next week?
Do you know what - there's no such thing as a quick job :ROFLMAO:
