On mine, the gap between the ramp and deck is so big that if you filled it with grease it’d run out. If my deck goes it’ll get kerouin boarding.

this has lasted three years in my Ifor ... heavily painted/coated 18mm faced ply .... considering replacing it with some 250 x 38 CLS boards, front to back orientation and capturing it each end with some 3mm angle caps --- can't rot any quicker than the bloody ply
I'll groove the outer two to fit over the board retainer lips and it's gonna be good old creosote this time - maybe bitu underneath and the edges

Looking back at my records it was nearly 10 years ago that I replaced my LM146 boards...

Replaced with 8x4 sheets from ATE. They didn't colour match them

They lasted very well and were never really abused.
Always stored the trailer with a tilt allowing water to run off etc.
Front board was covered with an old one for chucking the digger buckets on etc.
And it's still in great condition and did not require replacement after 10 years

my 8 x 4 is in a similar state ... used to keep the bed indoors when not being used but apathy crept in and it got left in the weather
got a sheet here for that and think it'll get several coats of creosote too with Bitu on the underside and edges -- when I get round to it

Busy day with Jack yesterday. "Granddad, we worked for 13 hours"

Site of the old greenhouse - "Rake out all the organic material please"
Digger + springy rake did the job...

300 with teeth sorted out the shallow footings and 2 courses of brick which Jack handball away into his favourite machine

Then I got the Arrowhead S20 out and broke up the concrete path and front apron.
Jack only handball a load or so before I slipped on the 450 to load the rest away

Job jobbed for now before lunch. Build up with 5 loads of basic soils. To be sorted later with good topsoil and grass seed. When we have rain forecast. Look at how dry my lawn is

......then in the late afternoon, my neighbour James said, "Dave before you go on holiday can you just dig out a bit for concrete for my new garage"

"Don't worry, it dead, I've disconnected it from the consumer unit"
So pulled in a skinny trench for services...

Then worked up towards the other new build shed...
He initially told me he wanted a 600mm by 30m deep trench
So I asked him about the secret bunker that he was building

Jack took the spill away to our heaps. So what he doing is adding 600mm slab to the existing old garage slab for the new build. He will over engineer it with reed bar etc.

Can you see that the light was fading with the eclipse. We looked at it with my welding mask
James was really happy with our help to get the prep done. Job jobbed

As a footnote, James is a heating engineer who specialises in renewables.
We have been helping him out because he will be helping me out with an install of air to air heat pump stuff.
First he will be installing his own split units and I will be helping.
Then I will install my own split units. Will probably go for 2 big outside units with 3 indoor units on each

Well back in the day, I had a 1959 Austin FE Series 3. With a straight 6, 4 litre petrol engine - very quiet and smooth
Flatbed at 3 ton payload. Previous had done it in softwood which was staring to rot. I patched it up.
I now have an old lorry body for dismantling. It has a Kerouin floor....

Jack's now getting quite good at basic operating. Young people seem to pick it up quicker than us old farts

Then showed Jack how to grade it off, track it in and rake it out ready for grass seed on the site of the old greenhouse

Then showed him how "Tidy up yer pile"
Now every weekend that he comes over, he's looking for little jobs with my mini digger

And fast forward a few weeks to today. After several recent showers of rain, the grass seed is getting away. Amazing value hat £7.99 box of grass seed. The black pot is covering the old blue MDPE water mains pipe. Gonna dig that out from the Tee - work is progress This time next year, you won't even know it what there. Well pleased in getting this part of the garden tidied up

Always looks after the old girl, and many think that I over service it. But in all the time I have owned it it has never let me down

So Jack did the routine engine oil and filter change. Then we used a suction extractor to get all the hydraulic oil out. When refilling it, Jack said, "Why don't we pour it straight into the filter housing rather than that thin filler tube"
So that's what we did, before sliding in a nice new hydraulic filter

Then Jack drained and refilled the track motor gears with the good stuff.
I was surprised how dirty the old stuff was

Having had a good hot jet wash, I showed him how to use the air powered grease gun. This tool eats refill tubes

We checked each grease nipple and swapped out 3 leaking ones....

And finally the track tensioners. This nipple didn't want to seal properly but we changed guns and got it done. Told Jack, "Always have a rag in your hand and try and work clean"
Why all the photos of Jack? Well it turns out now he's in Year Eleven at School that he gathering information to write a CV. He thinks that he wants to be a motor vehicle apprentice. I would encourage him to do this at a main dealer when he finishes school summer 2027. IMHO, doing an apprenticeship means that you are being paid to learn and not running up huge student debts

No such thing as over servicing! I do my track motors every 250hrs along with the engine oil. It doesn't take long and there's such a small amount of oil in there it doesn't take long for it to go rank. The manual says every 1000hrs for track motors which is ridiculous

Same with Cat CTL’s, they take a real hammering. For the sake of 3 litres of oil to do both and 15 minutes, I do them at engine oil changes. Haven’t found any value in more frequently than that, the oil comes out quite clean.

seriously, seeing how Jack piles in and helps, he’s the sort of lad we can’t get enough of on our apprenticeship scheme. Mind you, the last three years we’ve had a few decent youngsters come through, lads, lasses and one transit van. Got an 18 year old girl with us at the moment, and she soaks it all up like a sponge.
