Oh no - what caused the breakdown. Hopefully it wasn't the wet belt
When towing a caravan, I absolutely hate breakdowns which can be dangerous.
I remember years ago, I had borrowed my dear old dad's caravan to take the family on holiday to the West Country 😎
Whilst travelling around the southern section of the M25 the offside tyre blew out.
Family up the hard shoulder, whilst I changed the tyre inches from certain death.
I was absolutely terrified :poop: but got the job done and had new respect for 'high speed roads' :p
So related to William' post and you lot, my next post will be a little confessionary tale...
Turbo went- van literally couldn't move itself with the caravan attached 😕
I came and got the caravan, another mate came and got the passengers, the AA were there within an hour - they actually got there quicker than an ambulance called to the nearest house around the same time for an unrelated incident!!
Van got relayed back over a couple of days to it's regular garage, turbo supplied and fitted £1300- not too bad really considering it would include a full oil and filter change with the correct oil.
Caravan is in storage on the campsite, £25 a week. They're going back for the weekend at the end of the month to collect it.
Overall could have been a lot worse👍

Wow - that went well for you all things considered ;)

Bit of a 'dark art' when they say, "Turbos gone mate" with much sucking between the teeth.
Did one on my Disco 3 a few years ago, with the body on. With the usual broken studs it wasn't easy
Years ago, I was towing our caravan uphill in the Peak District with my Disco 1 300Tdi.
It went into limp mode and I nursed it up into a lay-by using low range.
Yes, I was running it on a veggie oil blend and the fuel filter blocked.
Knowing the issues, I was carrying a new filter. 15 mins later we was on our way

Site security?
TBF if you parked that in a field and a transit tipper you'd be guaranteed a police presence .
Hmmm now there's an idea 🤔
Now that could work, don't give anyone any ideas :ROFLMAO:
Years ago, in another certain profession, we executed a search warrant, on a traveller's site in South Essex.
They had been doing 'armed blaggings' on Post Offices in the Region.
Having searched all the similar looking caravans, and made numerous arrests, we were stumped for other evidence.
Then I had a brainwave. Bravely entering the Cock Fighting Coop, I found a DOUBLE BARRELLED SAWN OFF SHOTGUN, tucked up on the beam over the door. They got duly convicted at Crown Court and we all lived to tell the tale

So many of you will remember that we finally sorted out a very nice static caravan for Ryan to stay back in March '26.
Well prior to this I got hold of a very nice 'fixer upper' Hobby Prestige caravan from 50 odd miles down the road ;)

Picked this up for a 'bargain price' from the seasonal site where it was used as a holiday home.

Will it work

So simply converted it to my 13 pin job on the Navara.
Pumped the tyres up tested the brakes and towed it home. It went like a dream.

But when we got it home and started the fixing up process, realised that it wasn't really suitable for our grandson to live in. The breaking point/deal breaker was when I tested the LPG water heater, it pissed out water - frost damage😳 We then bough a much better static caravan :giggle:

So fast forward to where we are now, and have decided to sell the superb German built Hobby Prestige. Many of you messers will know that there are people out that 'walk amongst us' on FB MP who are complete tossers 😅
So decided to advertise it on a good old eBay auction. That was last Sunday and do you know what, it has gone almost viral. It will sell....View attachment 82685
TFR and a jet wash, comes up quiet well

So fingers crossed that it sell OK. Got someone coming to view it later this week. Already at reserve.
Really hope that someone can put it to good use 😉
There always seems to be a tale to go with buying used caravans. My mate went all the way up to the lakes to buy a caravan. Got there in the dark and did not do much of a job looking it over. But when he got it back to Devon he discovered a turd in the toilet!

Not bad if there's just a turd which can be dealt with :poop:
But it's very much 'buyer beware' and I've walked away from deals before.
What I sometimes love doing when collecting a caravan is booking an overnight stop with our new bargain.
We did this with our immaculate Coachman Laser a few years ago - twas a great adventure
Then there was an occasion when I was into Classic and Vintage lorries.
Auction on eBay for an ERF 18 tonne job which I won for a bargain price of only £600.
Arranged the insurance and trade plates to go and fetch it with my brother in my immaculate Ford Scorpio.
When we got there about 200 miles way, the tosser had swapped out all the good wheels and tyres for stuff from his yard.
The shiny wheels and newish tyres were in the photos and he said, "Well it didn't make good money and the wheels are worth more than that"
I called him a few choice names and walked away from that one.
Mind you had a nice 'day trip' with my brother

I once had similar with a good friend who bought a Man lorry via ebay from near Heathrow. It had recently had a brand new engine from Man but then had to go because of LEZ. It didn’t make as much as they really wanted, the seller was very honest though and said he’d had the best tyres etc off it to try and make some money back but was just legal enough to get us the 3hr journey back to the midlands! We had my van loaded with as much kit as we could just in case…..drove back perfectly and did 10years converted to a tipper with very little issues!

that's currently a pretty decent bargain Dave ... (y)
nice looking tin tent:giggle:
been considering summat like that for 'visiting kids' (plus tribe) -
once again, shame you're such a trek away :( ...
and don't think the Kia'd be too fussed on the haul back - rated at 1800kgs, but with such a tall 1st/rev. you'd not want too many starts/shunts .. :(
it is not the greatest 'shunter' in a tight spot - it's one of two bugbears I have with it -
too tall a first cog and crap lights - it outperforms its lights by a serious factor in the dark :oops:

That is such great way of buying old lorries. With the introduction of the LEZ many older lorries became available for the Classic and Vintage Commercial scene. I was a member of the HCVS and would buy up any old junk :giggle:

You know that you want it Gra to add to yer stuff :p
Have a cheeky bid and I'll deliver it to your gaff for cost of fuel.
But only if you let me kip in it overnight, sleeping off all those beers 🍻:ROFLMAO:

And what Matt @pettsy said reminded me that I bought an old Volvo F6 off eBay several years ago.
Again a bargain price at only £1500.
IMG_4156.JPG

Previous owner had been using it for banger racing. He said that the Hiab came in useful 😅
Loaded my Disco 1 on the back and came flying back around the M25/A12 home.
No speed limiter on such an old classic 😎

Did much fettling and moved it on to a haulage company guy in the Shetlands 😉

I went to welland the year before last with my old man. He is a big vintage lorry enthusiast and has restored some pretty rare beasts. He had a right sulk on and was very offended as half the lorries in the show hadn't even been released when he quit hgv fitting.
