500 hour service intervals is pretty standard well it is on our machines...

50 hour service oil filter, air filter, final drives
500 hour - oil filter, air filter
1000 hour oil, air, and final drives
1500 oil filter, air filter
2000 oil, air and final drives

Become more standard since hour clocks have been changed from the old style hours at 1500 rpm to how most machines are now which is just a clock which counts as soon as ignition is on. Not sure if smaller diggers may be on the old style counter still or not. I wouldn't be too worried about 500hr but if you're not clocking that many hours up you could do it every 12 months regardless

Yes but those are much bigger machines with larger oil capacities.
Kubota specify 100 hour oil changes on the D902, and you will see shorter changes mentioned for smaller sumps in that manual page I posted. Maybe stretch it out to 200 hours (with filter) but I certainly wouldn’t go to 500 hours

Im not saying go that far at the end of the day service manual says oil and filler intervals and go with those.

Why are you changing the air filter at 50hrs? I can't believe there anything but spotless unless someone has been cutting with a sthil saw next to it

Now thinking back at it, i dont think the air gets done. Main dealer normally do the first service foc on labour just have to pay for parts well thats the deal at my local case dealer

Cautrac....went there sometime in the early 2000’s as they where selling grey import hitachi diggers. The only place that impressed me less was Molsons.

The former are greedy and due to them basically having the capital to control the UK tracked dumper market will sit on things at there price.... Exported a lot of hitachi dumpers in the past few years to get em out the country so they could sell more (s**t) Moorokas!

When should the filter and oil be changed after this 50hr one? It's stating every 500hrs in the manual.

doob has posted up the engine manual ... I'd be taking notice of it TBH .... as has been said long service intervals are to please the hire fleet buyers, who'll rarely have 'em long enough to see issues ... this is YOUR OWN machine, being paid for with YOUR OWN money ... a few quid on regular servicing will pay in the long run .... oil and filters are peanuts compared to a replacement engine cost ..... I know what i'd rather be shelling out for

I've changed the oil and filter at around 60hrs and the gear oil was done around 50hrs. I just need to top up the hydraulic oil, they've said to use ISO 46.

When an engine block Is manufactured there’s nearly always residual casting sand left in the galleries, and anywhere else it can hang up. There is also machining swarf that doesn’t always get removed before assembly. This is why the 50-hr oil change is a must-do. Same thing with the hydraulic system, they also contain cast parts that aren’t always as clean as you’d hope or expect, and any gear trains also shed the most debris while running in.

The manual states to change the hydraulic oil and suction filter at 1000hrs. Should I be doing this now? I'm just around 80hrs.

No, you’re okay sticking with the recommendations, just don’t go beyond them. you’re only changing what’s in the reservoir anyway, what’s in the pump, rams and hoses doesn’t get changed, and that can be half the total in some machines.
