Ranger 2015 2.2 for towing

Haha your a braver man than I! Hear too many stories of snapped cranks to want to risk it although if I could spec my perfect truck it would probably end up being a D4 on paper!

Just look how many are on the road when you drive around, lots more than any pick up.

Yes it's an issue that may happen..if it does then you put the updated one in and go again.

2.2 should be fine for towing, sticking points are Egr cooler and the vane oil pump.
There is a lot of people who swap them out for geared pump there's a few online guides floating about.
If it still has the original pump you need to drain and refill in something like 10 mins or you can have potential issues with the pump not priming.
Fuel wise not much in it between the 2.2 and 3.2 and autobox tends to be better for towing

My 3.2 is the same with the oil 10 mins start to finish is just about doable on your own

Yeah, have been dragging the TB230 about with it a bit recently.
But it is horrendously thirsty!!!… (I worked out that it has been costing 56p PER MILE just in diesel on a mix of motorways and A-roads over 300 miles)…

The hire company I work for ran 2ltr rangers, has now got mostly 2.8 Hiluxs. Reps preferred the Rangers as they were more posy, and comfortable/luxurious inside. I do a lot of towing, the Hilux is in a different league to Ranger. The 2ltr engine and 8 speed auto on the Ranger never knew what gear it wanted to be in, the one we had which did a lot of towing had gearbox issues by 30k miles. Hilux is basic in creature comforts, and a bit juicy, but a way better work truck. 73 Plate Invincible.

Thats not that bad though really. My old Cherokee Jeep used to be 15mpg without a trailer. When I was towing for the balloon company with 110 landrovers we used to get about 8mpg on LPG with V8 and about 15mpg with the TD5 (12 seats all full and heavy trailer)

Took my (then) 2 year old 2.0 Ranger up the A1from Hertfordshire to Edinburgh. Reset the trip, Steady run all the way, had 30mpg showing at Berwick, by the time I'd got to Edinburgh it was back to 27- on the same run/speeds in the D4 I'd get 32-34.
Day to day it was about 24-25, but I didn't work it particularly hard compared to a lot on here.

Think I was doing about 13 with this on- Colchester to Falmouth, through a storm over Dartmoor. Only weighed 1100 kg (picked off by an overhead crane with a weigh cell), plus the trailer, but it was like a giant sail.
4 tanks in 2 days

Yeah, I guess so. I’d never worked out pence per mile before - might have been sensible to do that particular calculation when it wasn’t 189.9 at the pump though!

Just don't bother ...bit like vehicle mods and tools. Some things in life you just don't calculate. Especially with swmbo looking over your shoulder . How much 🫣🫣
