Right. Here we go, and you will like this.

Mudguards aren't actually a MOT Item on the List, from that perspective. A MOT examiner has to inspect mudguards/wings for integrity if fitted. If not fitted then theres not much that can be done, in theory a chassis cab without mudguards can be MOT'd although IMHO I do think it's pushing luck. Intrestingly too unless it's a monocoque chassis the Body is of no concern to a MOT tester provided there are no sharp edges to be cut on.

Issue arises with C&U Regs, "(2) Subject to paragraphs (3) and (5),every vehicle to which this regulation applies shall be equipped with wings or other similar fittings to catch, so far as practicable, mud or water thrown up by the rotation of its wheels or tracks."

In reality the Body of the vehicle (which just covers the tires) will catch mud or water and the rear rubber flaps will prevent it escaping out the back. If/When it becomes a vehicle capable of discharging it's load to the rear through tipping it also can have much shorter mud flaps/guards that extend to just below half way down the wheel.

Key word is Practicable. Argument for not going with much heavier or fixed guards is the vehicle is built to operate in a off road environment doing it's job, and fitting plastic guards closer to the wheel could result in them getting caught due to the potential articulation of the axle.

Interestingly a "heavy motor car" with a 5th wheel needs no guarding at all.

Dial a MOT it definetly was'nt.... failed originally due to some welding needed.

😂 All about knowing the Laws... Lots of things get failed by MOT men when they have no buisness commenting. DVSA HGV plating lads are much better and will get the big book out to show you how you can push your luck if they like you... but if your abusive or argumentitive to them like many are then you won't learn f**k all.

but the extremities of the vehicle do not cover the wheels Rory ... and that is a requirement .... the wheels on there are the widest point of the vehicle and are a danger to pedestrians ... traffic plods round here would nick you for that ...

I've attacked it with a strait edge when the vehicle is sat dead level. Body covers all of the tread and you are supposedly allowed the sidewall unguarded. Not saying your wrong but i'm satisfied. If it proves to be a issue then I will apply some conveyor belt. But reality wise it'd take a bit of a twat to cause issue.

First week down. Can safely say even without tipping this is a worthwhile investment and far safer than using a pickup. The highway maintenance sticker was a bit big but f**k it..... Might get roped into a job in Dorset in the next two months, plus it gives me reason to argue with traffic Nazis

New diesel Wacker for £500. There are at least two more at that price and some larger ones with and without electric start for just over a grand if anyone is interested.

And my new toy... Any ideas?

What do you use the rock drill for?

I run several different makes and models and am always on the lookout for used ones.

I've a scheme in my head involving non explosive detonators on some of the muckshifts we assist on. couple years ago on one job we ran into stuff the 210 could'nt rip which resulted in about a month of a excavator with breaker on hire

It's mostly been brought for a few odds and sods jobs. I've the option of buying another but not decided yet.

There is chemical rock spliting stuff out there that you just pour in the holes and it expands at high pressure https://www.wee.no/bore-utstyr-weesplitt/weesplitt-20-kg-type-3-(vinter)

one that one do you turn the handle the wrong way? My diesel plate was a ferryman (I think) engine, which you turn anti clockwise, and the de compressor is some kind of clockwork idea that turn the knob a bit each turn of the engine. Turning anti clockwise throws some when they try and start it.
