Yeah bad in France too - limited availability and obviously high prices.
Thankfully we dont need a diverse array of materials ... but builders struggling.

Whats going to happen going forward ? Anyone any predictions ?

I guess most of it is backlog from covid shutdowns followed but a fast pickup of work and everyone wanteing everything now. I expect supply and demand will balance its self out over time again, but it doesn't help people panic buying and stockpiling stuff such as cement just incase.

Watching various social media streams the massive price rises and short demand is global
America seems badly hit for timber supplies by the look of it so doesn't appear to just be a Brexit thing

I read somewhere the other day that our Scandy suppliers had a shitty wet winter like us so harvesting was screwed up by that, plus covid, etc., so the mills no longer have the stock piles to cover normal demand levels, let alone the current ones, plus mills don't have the stockpiles they'd normally have to see them through their maintenance shutdown periods either ... perfect storm basically

And in the US timber supplies have been hit by a bug i the trees several years ago and the southern plantations struggling for labour due to the government stimulus leaving the local labour happy to sit at home. Inflation Inflation Inflation. Ohh.....did I mention price increases!!

Some of my neighbours are reporting a shortage of timber. One can’t get fencing stuff and the other can’t get timber for making a gate 😳
So do I let them have some of my vast stock 😜

Half a pack left of 4x2 from Pontrilus Sawmills up near Gra @V8Druid 😎
2x1 batterns, sleepers, and other popular stuff tucked away here 😉
Haven’t had to shop for timber for a while so hope supplies will come back 🤠

Went to pick up 20m of 2x2 for a job starting Monday and our local supplier had none in stock or any other convenient sizes we could rip down. Never known anything like it.
Luckily went on to another place and they had some in stock, although only tanalised. Luckily that doesn't matter to us.
Our local timber yard is probably 3 acres big, normally stacked high as they dare, the last few months your left with the Timber Battons on the floor and 3 forklifts sat dusty!

can't beat having plenty in:);) .... but there are limits ..... when i shop, I SHOP ...... see no point in doing it every bloody week ..... i'm there, so I go for it .... Pam has come round to my way of thinking this last 12 months or so and shopping expeditions are now a 6-8 weekly occurrence :giggle: ... bread and milk are the biggest issues ... bread freezes easy enough, but takes up a lot of space ... and no way am i gonna freeze milk - it's shite afterwards. the local garage in the village is the saviour for our milk though........ a freezer going down would be a right PITFA though :(

Milk freezes no problem and tastes no different. Have a few pint plastic bottles in there, then you'll never run out
