We had a red warning here for wind a few months back- really was nothing spectacular. Sure gusty and a few trees down, tiles off roofs etc but that's just a standard winter storm isn't it!?

As I have said before, the accuracy of forecasting has become very bad. Based on the “95% chance” of it completley lashing down from 9am yesterday I cancelled a 3.1 bricklaying gang. It did rain heavily at 12noon. For 30mins. 4 blokes sat at home twiddling there thumbs when they would have easily got a fulls day pay after taking an early lunch!!

Or alternatively how many go out and crack on and deal with a bit of wind like we used to before nanny state took over. Hardly a breath of wind here
I've circled the salient points and the irony for you:

I don't know why you're telling me what the weather is like 12 hrs before the storm peaks, it's irrelevant.
This isn't anything to do with some so called 'nanny state', we've always had the choice of how stupidly we want to act, it's never been taken away from you completely. Apart from some road closures to keep the lemmings from stretching the emergency services too much, you can put yourself at as much or little risk as you like. It doesn't matter to me, i'll still be here at the end of today, some won't be, not my problem.

Hopefully not too bad our way but!
think we got away at the edge-ish again ... not that it hasn't been a wild night - the gusts at half four this morning were seeeeerious - woke me up and'd only just gotten to sleep  .... but could've been a lot worse damage wise ...
big tree down at the bottom of our access road/lane .. was upright at ten when I passed it ... in the bloody way at twenty past - glad it waited for me to get by earlier
I just pulled in and waited 5 minutes for the farmer, who's up and down the road like a blue arse fly, to find it ... didn't take him long to turn it into 'gutter rubbish'
if I was feeling more 'me' I'd've chucked a trailer on, grabbed a saw and gone back and creatively relocated a load or two .. sadly CNBA ATM :(

s**t happens every day. Sometimes it is just more concentrated when nature is involved.
My only problem is what appears to be the complete lack of accuracy in current forecasts. I am wondering if there is some form of conspiracy involved!!

When the Met issues coloured warnings ⚠️ roads and schools get closed it's time to take it seriously. Not the time to take a drive through the nearest woods or go pick up your high sided vehicle and take it for a drive on some exposed roads through an Amber warning 😅

To get the best accuracy always use the Met Office and consult it the night before, not the week before.

Even then they use computer simulations to make educated predictions and do get it wrong, but as said, not with severe weather like that.

In between the two extremes of telling everyone they're wrong and packing up the picnic hamper, tent or running round like a headless chicken is the sensible ground.

Somebody trying to tell me yesterday if a red weather warning issued and you're out in your car unnecessarily insurance won't pay out if there's been sufficient warning. Anyone heard anything like this before we surely they won't get away with that.

Rubbish!!
The only time you would have a problem is driving recklessly through flood water unless you had just cause!! If the. They are on difficult ground!!

agreed and very hard for them to prove.....I've had a short block on insurance from "optimistic fording" just made sure we towed it a decent way from the location to a A Road before AA turned up..." Deep puddle mate" ...

You just need to be creative with insurance ...the twats will screw you at any opportunity
