Poorly Wacker plate

Strop would end up pulling into the rubber shroud and damaging something. Holes drilled in the ends of the wings so you can shackle / strop would suit, or maybe fabricate some eye bolts to replace the existing bolts that hold the cage on

put a strop round it low or drill a hole in the plate for a shackle

Anyone used these ones. £2600plus vat for this one. Just spoke to Fairport, seemed pretty helpful....

I like the pneumatic transport wheels for moving around rougher ground and nicely tucked out the way when not in use.

Mines heavy as sin I don’t think my 3 ton would move it around I tend not to use it for that reason I’ve a pic somewhere of it on an 8 x 5 plant trailer they’re big lumps

Yeah that's the downside I think is it's not going to fit on a trailer with the digger due to weight. I'm tending to think go for a circa 200kg reversible plate that's convenient and just have to hire in the rollers for the bigger areas.

I’d still advise going for a WN…. Will be better than anything else. At that size I would just buy new from M+M I think

Whilst your probably right I can't really see what's so much better about the Wacker that makes it a good 50% more expensive though? Compaction levels are supposedly higher on the Fairport's and belles and Fairport said there HAVs levels were rated for 8 hrs use if used on 803. If I was using them daily or even weekly it would make sense to buy whatever the best is but this really is just going to be a handful of jobs a year I reckon

Ever ready plant hire run Fairport. They seem to be made sturdy enough but the finish details aren't great. Things like the plate being crisply folded plate rather than a casting with softened angles on the edges meant they left lines in tarmac. I also seem to remember a bit of studding being welded to the frame instead of casting with a thread on it like you would expect to find on a Wacker or bomag, it's something little but I always associate it with Chinese engineering.

FTH have bartell Wackers and trench compactors which did always seem to have an incredible amount of steel in them. And double HAVS on them with the traditional rubbers at the base of the handle but a second set at the top of the handle.

Hmm case of get what you pay for then .
I miss my little bomag pedestrian roller tbh. Not many seem to like them on here but they were handy being able to cover ground quite quickly compared to a plate and still fit it on a trailer with the 1.8t digger etc

I like my little 400kg ped roller ... been a good little tool aside from the rubber cotton reels on the drive flange - an OE set cured those issues though and always park it on two blocks to take the weight off the drum drive, when not in use

I've tried fair point smaller Wackers and you spend half your life welding bits back on I'd go for a brand new WN and just forget about it they go every time and need little to no repairs. The bell plates are awful the wheels drag the floor so they get stuck and are nearly impossible to get onto the wheels for transport

We have the bomag bw55 which is a great size but isn’t comparable to the 200 kg wackers on compaction or manoeuvre ability especially on tricky terrain

Compaction is one of those things where it’s hard to have a one trick pony you need a few options I’m still looking for a nice used 400 kg wacker to fill that gap in the fleet

Yeah the wheels are pointless I’m 150kg and struggle to get enough weight on them to keep them on the wheels and actually move them

Shame to hear that about Fairport because certainly the price is appealing. £2600 Vs £4000 for equivalent Wacker. Local Wacker dealer has a dpu2550 available. Looking at the wheels they have I can't see how that's not going to be the same issue as the Belle? I only weigh 90kg the Wacker weighs 170kg and the wheels are the pivot- simple physics tells me that's going to be able pain in the arse!??

They do work fine IME on both the belle and the Wacker. Putting them on the wheels is fine. Bit of a catapult effect putting them back on the plate though

I’ve hired a similar one from Cholwills. 2540? I’m similar weight and had no problem moving it around on its wheels on good ground surface.
