I think your right. Yes you may be very wealthy if you have large teams, but from what I’ve observed, if you value the quality of your work and job satisfaction, then best stay small and keep a grip on what you do. It’s also a bit easier to weather a storm if your a small firm I think.
There’s a demolition firm locally that’s not done much, if anything since Christmas, laid a lot of staff off apparently. Bigger is not always better.

I think it can go as quick as it comes, 10 carded blokes will cost you the best part of 2k a day easily - few quiet weeks and you’re seriously out of pocket.

absolutely ..... had more than a dozen blokes on at one time ..... spent every waking hour keeping them busy, supplied with drawings, job sheets, materials, etc., etc., etc. .. and couldn't be so choosy about the work .... as things/work/customer base changed / some of 'em went on to pastures new / finding replacements became more and more difficult, I tailored the work load to suit the labour force and made as much, if not more, with just a few good blokes, a lot less stress and choosing what we did (what paid the best) ;):) .... and I got more time too

I informed my customer which I've subbed to for quite a while that I'll no longer be suppling myself and labour, chap has worked for me for 6 weeks, had 5 days off up to now plus been late, an hour here and hour there, kids ill, car broke down, he's ill, all the usual s**t, I've had enough of trying to find good men, been at it now for 17 years nobody gives a toss about the standard of work they do, anyhow will do.
Chap who worked for me last year never bothered to come back after Christmas, no notice, another one quit last May, again no notice, had a mates son work for me for a while, ok when the weather was warm come the winter not interested, sent a text once saying he had a headache and ear ache so couldn't come in, been to the doctors and got meds etc, back at work the following day, on the still saw and wacker plate with no ear defender's on!!
Got a few jobs to drop on to but I'll be looking to get work for me and the machine and if that doesn't work out I'll work for somebody else, fed up with it, I cant understand how other companies get by with the s**t staff that are on offer?
