In my eyes really when you are looking at a vehicle more than 10 years old it should really be about 1000 quid per year of usefull life left. But seeing 15yo ex farm trucks that have barely scraped through an mot for the past 5 years up for sale for over 4 grand does not make sense
Yeah over 10 year old unless very well looked after you probably shouldn't look at as a long term vehicle. The way i looked at mine was patched up for an mot and shifted on I'd have needed to add about 10k to it to get a decent 5 year old last of the line 3 litre hilux going by what folk are asking. Then to avoid being back to where i am with my own in 5 years time I'd need to have done a fair chunk of the work I've done to my own anyway.
Rather have the 10k in the bank to put towards building me shed this year.

My truck is very old a completely knackered I own it and it has more than done enough to pay for itself. I could sell it for way more than it's worth but I may aswell run it into the ground and still let some halfwit give me way more than scrap value to take it away

I too wouldn't mind a change of vehicle, been suffering with the old disco 4 for 7 1/2 years. Bloody new vehicles are not cheap and on short supply and I've convinced myself I'll wait for thing to come back a bit but how long do you wait 😬
A 15 plate disco 4 commercial 25k with reasonable miles on it

Ive à ballache of à year coming up and hope its worth it....... intend going from 7.5t hookloader to 12-14t version and dropping from 8t digger to 5-6t digger and so I can move myself ... oh and tiltrotator.

Everything is stupid money 🤦and it's worse here than u.k.

Off to look at this when it comes out of local workshops in a week or 2 ... its a 12t gvw - year 2011 - 150 klms - auto box - with a 5.8t payload (apparantly)with a tipper body on.

Don't like the fact there is no back windows and that's before seeing it.

No back windows is no real biggie
A rear view camera ontop of the cab is dead handy anyway even with a back window so worth fitting especially fOr hook gear

I’m sure you could put a back window in it easily enough, or mount a camera on the back of the cab?
TBH though it sounds a bit too close to the mark on the payload…..

Yeah I know you can put a camera on but that will be nearly always be splattered in s**t/grime to the extent you cant see anything in it anyhow.

Yeah its a bit close 6t payload but there is the law of diminishing returns and might be better to have a slightly smaller machine and a handier wagon 🤔 ... went to look at a 19t this afternoon just to discount that size and yep no way would I want that numb fecking thing....

I was thinking that. Feel at home Furniss with a good old Landrover side window retrofitted to the back of the cab. 😆
And James has a point on load, ideally you are looking for what I call a fat 5t machine - like the KX57, and with some tasty extras, mud on the tracks, and the endless attachments you will of course now require to fit in with other instagram tiltrotator users - you're going to need more capacity mate!
Could always tow a trailer behind with the attachments on... but obviously you are trying to get away from towing!

In all seriousness, if you are going to all this effort to downsize to a middle ground machine, I feel you want to get it right, rather than compromise to say a 4.5t machine which wont be a huge step up in capacity from your 2.8t and certainly wont fill the boots of the 8 you currently have. Expensive as its going to be, it will be more expensive to buy twice

could do with swapping the Golf for summat .... but have no idea WTF to look at or buy ..... have had it 7 years and been a decent vehicle, but it's inevitably gonna start developing issues

Agreed , if I am going this route ......I suppose I really need to be searching out the biggest small wagon I can get, I think someone said they go onto bigger axles at the 14t mark.
TBH my work has become pretty light last few years and I don't really need the 8t very much but agreed 4.5t isn't really worth the effort to change wagon over the 2.8t.

I have toyed with the idea of a cheap flatbed ... but cheap in France is about 10k and I get none of the other advantages that I would get by upgrading the hookloader ie more muck away or aggregates in, I just get a one trick pony parked up at yard.

There's a big step from 2.8 ton to 4ton plus machine in production but if you're trying to meet in the middle between 3 and 8 ton then you really do need to be closer to 6 ton than 5 imho. At trying to stay around 4.5 ton machine weight you're likely to end up with a 5 tonner with weight taken off it and it'll probably be a horrible noddy heap. If i was trying to keep weight down I'd rather a rock solid and stable 4 tonner than a slimmed down 5 but honestly i think you'd be better trying to gain a bit extra capacity on the truck so you can have a proper 6.
