Yeah I did all that, cooper grease on all the metal parts-except disc obvs!. Although I didn't extend the calliper pistons out and clean them up which probably would have been beneficial. My money is that the pads were binding the carrier as was all mega tight but time will tell. Parts weren't too expensive so not the end of the world if I'm back doing it again in a year or 2
I explained how to do exactly that on my blog. The important thing is to remove the stainless slider shim plates. And remove all the rust underneath. It’s this that causes the binds. The new pads should slide freely on the carrier bracket. If not it will get worse 😳
So simply remove them and start again 😉

Interesting thanks . I'll have a look see if I can find your "article". When you say the stainless slider- do you mean the sort of clips either side of the pads which hold it in place? I replaced these and gave it all a good wire brush and copper grease before putting the new ones in...

I use rubber grease on calliper sliders, can’t remember the reason why 🤣
Ah yes for the little round ones with rubber boots that’s a yes from me too 👍🏻
But up until now we have been talking about the grooves where the pads slide. Usually lubricated with Copperslip or similar 🤪

Ahh, you’re talking about the anti-rattle clips that go on the carriers 👍🏻 I put a bit of copper on the ends of the pads where they mount. Always done it that way but have thought about trying some of the ceramic grease when current tin runs out!

Just an update lads, Navara sailed through the MOT Friday evening, no issues at all, not even an advisory.
Good thing about an evening appointment, on automatic sidelights DRL didn't get noticed

I was well chuffed when the examiner handing it back said he usually expects rust buckets with pickups, instead he'd never seen one so clean underneath, at any age.

Might just keep this girl a few more years, give her some TLC. 😁
Have you done a transmission oil change on yours and did you change the return filter in the bottom of the transmission sump. Got mine booked in for a full service with Nissan but I don't think they are doing the sump filter- fair old job as have to take the sump off to get to the filter and reseal it all🤔

Haven't done any servicing on it as yet, (other than replace cabin air filter), another 4,000 miles until scheduled service.
I've a fully stamped up service book from a main dealer up to ~ 185k miles, and independent thereafter, but no detail of what work was contained within that history.

I haven't considered the transmission oil, replaced it twice on my previous Discovery (vaccum pumped) and it did nothing to rectify the problems it had, so I'm a bit sceptical about the usefulness of doing on this one. "If it ain't broke...."

More concerned with the timing chain as I've no idea if its had a replacement at an earlier service. If its original, its well due changing.
That said, there's no tell tale chain slap or rattle on revving so might have been replaced.

Will try Nissan at some point to see if they have central records of the dealer servicing for some peace of mind.

Interesting. Quite surprised the trans oil hasn't been changed with the miles youve done!
Nissan don't actually say how often the oil should be changed but I think it's worth doing probably - the oil is 😱 money though. There's plenty of vids on you tube of them doing the internal transmission filter but nissan themselves say not to unless there's a problem- to be fair most of the vids on tube the filter looks very clean anyway...

I'll bet the spec is the same as someone else's at less than half of that:mad::mad:

IIRC they're all legally required to supply spec.s if requested
I think your absolutely right. I found an OEM brand that makes it for Nissan but minus an additive as far as I can make out- thing is yes id save myself £100 but if I get Tranny issues id always be thinking was it the cheap oil!?

Hilux engine oil and filter change and a replacement cabin filter is £380……..
I think the 2020+ Hilux qualifies for the extra years warranty and roadside if it's under 100k on the clock. I'm sure Toyota did an upto 10 year/100k extension if you did the services at the main dealer

That’s why I’m doing it - the a/c isn’t working (again!) and I’ve also heard of these hilux’s having timing chain issues around 60k miles (I’m on 50k now) which is a £2500 job outside of warranty…. So I’m essentially paying insurance!

To be fair an independent warranty would be way more per year than the service, hopefully they don't try to wiggle out of things
