New van prices

I've been looking to swap one of my pickups in for a van that will tow 3500kg. Probably get an Iveco Daily as all will legally tow 3500kg. I'm in no hurry, so currently looking for good used one.

I did look at getting a sprinter, but they are special order for the 3500kg towing and people who I know have ordered them have had many months delay over the intial deliver date which was well into the future anyway. It seems they can sell so many standard ones they have little interest in anything else. Also the spec I was looking at was about £50,000 plus VAT which was a bit too rich for me.

i bought my daily tipper from pitters new. They allways have a good stock of pre-reg and bare chassis

There is two different 35 models but one of them is 7t gtw

Think the s are single rear wheel and 2.8t tow and the c are twin wheel and 3.5t tow

Do you know if the Iveco has a 7t gtw?

The the current Himatic 35 series are all 7t gtw, 3500kg towing as far as I can see looking at their website. Not sure about older models.

how "tacho exempt" @fred ?? .... not needed within operating radius anyway .... how would you fare on a maintenance regime for that ... same as 7.5t ??

Would imagine same checks as 7.5t with weeklys decided at license. Would have thought would need tacho

when I looked at it the restricted O license checks would be every 3 months based on us doing next to no mileage going to site and back.

would use the 100km of base not a haulier tacho exemption.

Tacho exemption only works for under 7.5t, you still have to have the tacho functioning and it's advised you stick a disc/card in regardless, however if under 7.5t transporting materials/plant for own use you can run on UK Domestic Hours.

R.E O license, you'll find that the maintenance checks vary and they dislike handing out 12 weekly licenses and they will check up on them.... 8 weeks is a far better number IMHO.

That's it. A 7.5t lorry with no trailer attached would be legal as your not drawing a trailer at the time. You can over complicate yourself by worrying about trailers but the simple fact is the maximum permissible mass applies to the configuration your using at the time.

Any vehicle over 3.5t gross is required to have a tachograph fitted at registration. the question of whether is is required to be used or not depends on whether youare on EU rules or UK rules.

Not true at all... any vehicle drawing a trailer over 3.5t combination weight needs a tachograph if the trailer is being used for business transport use. E.g your delivering materials to your site for someone else to use whilst you go elsewhere. All depends if you have a exemption from EU hours or not. Minefield really and very few can get there head around it. The exemption covers the Driver and materials for them to use during there course of work.

And it's 7.5t that the rules allow up to. Same with differing speed limits.
