Is that due to cold weather and waxing or just poor quality fuel with crap in it? Also red or white diesel?
Out of interest is everyone behaving and using white diesel where they should?

No choice up here Dave , a guy I know ran his tank dry and then switched to white . The big machines were not showing any evidence of red in no time as high through put but his small plant got used less so . He had his roller on site . It was running on white but still had red in it as he hadn’t run it out in red before topping up with white . His plant was dipped and he was fined 1700 quid for the roller

how long past the April cut off was that Vin? ..... there was supposed to be latitude / leeway for that sort of thing .... Think I'd have fought that one, with an infrequently used m/c like that ... there was no requirement for machine tanks to be purged -- only bulk tanks / bowsers ... first offence was also supposed to be £500 fine ... the 30% value of m/c (which i'm guessing that represented) was second offence with confiscation on the third occasion

If it happened exactly as reported that sounds like a real abuse of power

It's the sort of thing that makes the ones that try to apply rules look like fools and leads to even less respect for "the authorities "

What’s the score if you filled the fuel tank on every bit of equipment you own just before the deadline in order to empty your stock of red from your cans but then haven’t used some of the machines since?

I know someone who has a diesel wacker and diesel mixer, neither of which have run for over 12 months.

From my understanding the deadline was announced in plenty time so that by the time it came round you would be changed over to white not so you could fill up on red the day before.

There was definitely some guidance from HMRC regarding change over. It was said to be acceptable to fill the night before and use that tankful. I took pics of the machine clock on the 31st March. Been using white since, however, my roller has done probably an hour since the 31st March!

Filled all mine the day before, and they’re all still full, not used em since

Customs and Excise have more power of entry than plod ... and yes and what's worse, take possession of/seize/disbar you from, said premises with sufficient cause

No but did have a purge a few weeks after it started just down from our job. Plod and dvsa there for about 5hr

Brothers boss had a digger dipped at half six one night working at a private house. On white so all was fine.
I know a fella and his brother in law got dipped on the 1st day it was brought it, £1500 fine for red fuel in a mini digger.
My diesel man lives in the same lane as us, he reckons they will trace a lot illegal red diesel use through paperwork. He has to keep track of who he sells red diesel too each month and submit it to customs (pretty sure he said customs but can’t remember).

yep RDCO scheme ....

Yea he said he’s been recording it as long time but never bothered submitting it, but they were at him to make sure he submits it monthly now
