It’s what I do!
Not actually sure what should be where the spaced out bolts are, is there something missing in between? Mechanical valve!

The plate with the packer nuts, looks like its over the forward/reverse valve, looks like the fwd/rev lever coming off the top of it :unsure:
Still might be whipping the the off and having a look inside, no filter, tish build up in there:unsure:
that plate will have some physical connection from the F/R button to the swash plate control lever hiding under it (like a selector fork in a g/box, 'praps) but is gonna be full of oil, as is the pump body .. needs to be clean fore it gets opened up....tish and VD pumps are not happy bed fellows .. 's where I'd start ... but may need the pump on the bench for decent access .... looks tight where it is

I agree this is the starting point, drain oil plate off for inspection!

Agreed, From memory I think the hand brake was fitted by linkage to a spool, which locked out f/r, when off it would drive, when on it operated cables to the drums and the valve!

so that plate may just be replacing a dead lock mechanism to stop the plunger (and swash plate) from moving with the H/brake on

I think so yes!🤔 I remember driving one once, there were a few operations to get it to drive, it had a hand throttle, so set rpm, f/r lever, hand brake valve, and a pedal!

The level you are talking about is the drive level that is operated by the throttle paddle
The f/r is located on my left just under the seat

Ok ... so that lever only operates in the downward direction .... f/r is achieved hydraulically then, by reversing a single directional, variable flow rate controlled by the 'throttle pedal' (which is actually speed/flow control) and that plunger acts on the swash plate to vary flow rate
so do we have a PRV issue in the directional valve ????
doesn't explain the engine stall, although it wouldn't take much of a pressure issue at tickover to stop the motor ... noise might've been a stuck PRV letting go and staying open -- hence no drive after

Yes the harder you push the throttle the further in the plunger
What I'll do tomorrow is put some brake cleaner on it and some detergent and pressure wash it before I started looking to remove things thanks all

hold fire on stripping the pump ..... it may well be a simple Pressure Relief Valve issue in the directional spool dumping flow and pressure to tank and not allowing pressure to the drive motors ..... basically it's gone 'open circuit' and isn't allowing pressure to build, no matter what flow the pump is putting out

All ready there there wrong anyway forward is reverse and reverse is forward lol

Yes, that’s it, you select f/r, the foot pedal creates flow from the pump by blocking a port,

agree we are along the same lines, either the f/r valve got stuck in, the system itself is a bit AC/DC, not how we would do it,
