Lashing mini digger on ifor trailer

Careful with those trailers- can't remember the model but I had the same one and it nearly snapped in two. A nasty split worked it way where the drawbar meets the axle. The sheet metal of the body tore right up the sides of the trailer on both sides

is it ok to pass a strap through a shackle or fixing point then onto the ratchet ? Would it still tighten properly or could the friction passing through stop it from tightening properly?

Couldnt you larks foot an endless sling though the fixing point and then ratchet off that so the ratchet handle is between the tracks?

I don’t think the endless sling would comply for tying down though

As long as it has a swl it should be fine.

After all blue rope and tarpaulins are still accepted and they have nothing.

And it would hold tighter than a digga -loc which is still loose

I didn't realise there was that level of compliancy, as long as all the slings and straps are sufficiently rates. Although I think if you double over a strap or larks foot it you half the breaking strain?

Get 4 straps about 6ft long and cross strap it on both sides theres 2 more ratchets to do but it's a lot quicker than walking round to hook them on. I keep the ratchets on the lashing points when there not in use so there always to hand

These are the ones we use along with a short strap. DMC Supplies Ltd in Aberdeen sourced them for us, can't remember the price off the top of my head.

This - strap the opposite lashing point on the machine to give you more strap to work with.

Sounds similar to what I do, straps off the blade eyes pulling back, and straps off the eyes by the sprocket pulling forward, the straps cross over each other in the middle.
When not using them, don't roll them up, just unhook them off the digger and hook them on the nearest lashing point on the trailer, and nip them up.

there would be friction @Vinpetrol ... I meant shackle a short round sling to the lashing point to raise the attachment point for the ratchet above the tracks ... the slings are SWL rated and subject to more rigorous testing than the ratchets are .. 5x breaking strain ... IIRC the straps are 2x SWL

Can you not undo the bottom bolt on the rachet that attaches the strap to the short hook and just then put that bolt through the eye. Rachets would be permanent on trailer though. Or get those ones with the fixed hooks

Personally, fixed chains to front of trailer to connect to towing eye/U/C of machine. Track rearwards until tight.

Then a fixed chain and Binder to secure it backwards.
Some utter prick will be along to say that it's not safe/correct/compliant having only one chain and binder, reality is it's about as safe as your going to get a mini digger on a trailer, and that is all that matters.... compliance is in the eyes of the beholder.
I've got to weld some now lashings to the lorry now I know how the machine sits best, and this is what I will be doing with 2x chains to the U/C towing Eye - Front headboard and then two binders from the blade to the lorry deck.
The 1.9t diggers tend to get a 10t strap over the Blade or Kingpost and a 10t strap from towing point to the back of the trailer.

They may do on a small machine, on mine the lashing points on the machine are higher than the eyes on the sides.

Not a very good photo but @craig described it perfectly. The straps are pretty flat they dont pull down very much
