Is the backhoe loader a thing of the past?

Three of you will just about fit in the spare double bed, so I can put you all up for the night 👍🏻🤣
Nothing new here, last time I had 3 in a bed I shared with a German man and an English man 🤣🤣🤣

And no not like that either 😆😆

I've got to stick up for the old beast.

I was advised against buying one on this forum, when asking early "what to look for" questions on a 3CX... but I'm 2+yrs into ownership and I can say IMO... it's a jack of all trades, and indeed (as advised); a master of none.

I can see why all the advise against was valid... but it does a little bit of everything needed.

I still need to think carefully about those backhoe controls though. Takes me 10mins to reacquaint myself, every time.

The early 2cx`s the back end wasnt that nice too use, the newer ones better, more like a small 3cx.
Early ones the tilt/crowd rams on the front where on the inner edge of the loader arms, later ones they where on top.
Old reply resurrection - still mean to go and try a 2CX one day. X pattern - but can that be switched to + pattern? I’ve read that some of the 3cxs could be changed. Also can the hoses be swapped to make it ISO pattern? Again, I’ve read of it but information is sketchy.

Yes you can have them as sae plus pattern. That's what I learned on.

You can swap hoses round but I've heard stories about the flow share not working properly when it's done like that.

Not mine, but definitely a nice tool but as again just makes sense to hire as needed

I was once told that the X can be altered to + pattern by playing about with the linkages to the spools under the cover ... as for hose swapping, pretty sure the PRVs in the spool block would cause issues, swapping boom to crowd, etc., but dare say it could be done with some playing about and some pressure gauges

sure the levers were different between x and plus to have plus pattern same as 360 its a lot more involved. i dont really know why but if you learnt on x pattern its easier to change to 360 pattern or 180 plus pattern seems harder to learn the other way about plenty of guys told me that and it was true for me. first machine i ever drove was a four stick massey 40 then ford 13/6 the same then jake what really messed my head wa an old hitachi where slew was forward and back and i think an early nissan the same.

I loved those early Hitachis with the slew forward and back . I’m still convinced it was the best pattern.
A lot more control over the dipper rolling your wrist left and right than moving your arm forward and back . Less fine control is needed on the slew
