Get 27/28 from my Ranger, 3.2 remapped egr/adblue delete. Have seen 31 on a leisurely motorway run just interested to know what other people get?

I think so, it says that Australia will retain the existing v8 which is only euro 4 or maybe 5. It also says the 4.2 v8 is 7 less horsepower than the 2.8.
The Aussies get a pickup version as well, I don't know if we will, would definitely be the best pickup going

Would have thought torque would be a lot better though.
Rather have a lazy engine than a smaller one turbocharged to the limit like the 2.0 ranger

My 3.2 auto average is just under 25mpg
When I first got it with the roller shutter, it was not far off 39mpg on a 50mph motorway limit.
Its currently remapped, egr delete but dpf retained and has a Pegasus canopy (canopy utter crap) and a set of patriot rt tyres, barely break 30mpg on the dual/motorway.
Dpf delete might make it breathe a bit better and potential mpg increase

can't argue with you there, the new stuff is tinny, overpriced and underwhelming.
my old unmodified D3 and my old tuned 110 2.4 h/d van knock the spots of my 2.0 ranger as tow vehicles and mobile tool boxes.
The (old shape) defender is obviously a marmite thing, I've told more than 1 person not to buy one even though on paper it would have been perfect for them because I know they would hate driving it and owning it. I obviously loved mine, and would have another in a heartbeat if one came at the right time.
The d3 was fantastic to drive, great as a car and if you need more toys/creature comforts than they have you might as well stay at home because you're not going to cope on a site!
Both of them were capable of 30+mpg, low 20s local/towing, same as pretty much anything else I've had.
The problems are obviously age and reliability though.....
But you can afford a hell of a lot of repairs and 'yard days' from downtime, and another digger, before you even get to half the value of a new vehicle.
Having said all that, 18 months ago I was seriously considering selling a load of toys for a deposit and buying a new shape 110 commercial as it's got in my head like no other vehicle has, I think they're fantastic! But the interest rate rises etc have fortunately put that out my head
a 4k d3 looks just the same from 100 yards away anyway....

Honestly I must really like them, I've never even considered it with any other new vehicle
But no, I'm with you on this one, spend on the machines not the tow truck
And never mind selling toys, I'd struggle to get the enthusiasm to sell a bag of logs to get fund a Grenadier
Don't know why, it's a great recipe, just doesn't do anything for me

Personally I think I've the best plan.... A defender 110 hi cap, defender 90 and a series 3 in reserve.....

The trouble is whilst I truly despise the Landrover... There frankly basic and blandness will keep them alive well into the future.
The pessimist in me honestly believes that in ten to fifteen years they will be seriously focused on stamping out private car ownership..... You already have cars that are effectively on constant updates, look at your Microsoft computer software.... Do you own it or are you a subscriber?
The amount of ANPR that has arrived in the countryside since 2019 isn't a coincidence.
At least the venerable s**t box will be maintainable, and hardy I suspect to subsist on homemade fuel.

I am completely with you and would love a defender.
I don't find them to bad to drive in all honesty despite being 6ft5. Some of the tweaked tdi's actually go quite well. Everything is repairable and there are plenty of companies specializing in new and recon parts.
The heaters are terrible but a webasto would soon sort that out.
I think I could even swallow the cost of one thinking of it as a long term investment.
However the problem with them at least around here is no matter how tatty beaten up and rotten they look,you just can't keep hold of the bloody things. Still seems to be a daily post on Facebook of a missing defender.

Same, I'm 6'5 as well, never really had a problem with the driving position, my modded 2.4 with extended seat rails had more leg room than anything else I've had.
Anything from a 200tdi onwards should have no trouble keeping up with the motorway traffic, can't say the noise has ever seemed that bad to me (I find tyre noise on a quiet car far more intrusive than the whole roar of a defender, but I must be very strange
).I've always had the opposite problem to the heater not working, mine have always seemed to leak heat out the vents regardless
Like I said, they're marmite, you've got to want one to be happy living with it.

Talking of mpg, Ive arrived at 9000 mile service in my jeep compass 4xe. its saying 26mpg average over those miles. its a 1.3 3 cylinder hybrid..
Not very impressive,seeing as i drive quite reasonably.No towing either..

I can't think I've ever been in one with a functioning heater. I'm sure I e never driven one where the heater controls are connected to anything more than a noise making device behind the dashboard

Hopefully my 110 hi cap will be joining the historic vehicle class very soon, some of the exemptions are a bonus but the main one for me is being able to invest proper money in it's upkeep without the risk of it becoming worthless due to punitive increases in road tax

my old V8 90 had a great heater and me Mazda equipped 110 did too. Can't say I'd disagree on SIII,s though .... had rad constantly blanked unless it was gonna be grunting
