Would be fun to do something similar to cutting edge engineering in Australia but unsure if there is any UK equivalents ??to any country with better prospects than the sh*t hole you currently reside in![]()
Il make you a bucket what ever width you wantScandinavian Style Buckets?
I’m getting closer to finishing the tiltrotator build now, so I’ve started looking into a suitable bucket to go with it.
I’m not using a standard S-type coupling, so the plan is to buy a bucket without pins or side plates welded on. That way I’ve got the flexibility to either bolt it directly to the slew drive or make an adaptor/top hitch that can be bolted on instead.
At the moment though, all I seem to be finding are 1000mm+ wide grading buckets. Ideally, I was aiming for something around 750–800mm on the cutting edge so it’s a bit more usable and not too cumbersome.
From what I’ve seen, Engcon and Rototilt buckets are often around 900mm — so I’m a bit confused why most aftermarket options seem to start at 1000mm and go up from there.
Has anyone come across anything in that narrower range, or is it just not something that’s commonly available?
Looking good, needs a bit more welding before you try it too hardI’ve been working through a few of the smaller jobs — drilling through-holes, tapping threads for grease nipples, and machining the trunnion mount brackets to suit the bronze bushings.
The cylinder is a standard kit from Steerforth. To achieve the correct stroke length, I’ve shortened both the rod and the cylinder by 30mm. To help with alignment of the rod eye during welding , I left a 10mm stub on the rod, which locates into a machined recess in the rod eye to give a nice snug fit .
I’ve also tacked the main components together to trial-fit everything on the machine and check for any potential collisions just using a set of bucket pins temporarily — everything looks good so far.
It’s starting to take shape now. I just need to finalise the position of the rotation drive motor and decide where to mount a cross-line relief valve. I’m thinking of making a bracket to mount it on the side of the tilt ram, similar to the setup used on Engcon units.

Ideal , any idea on the what the cost and lead time would be for bucket like this ?Il make you a bucket what ever width you want![]()

I’m liking the depth of thought going in to thisBuild update:
I’ve started looking at the hydraulic hose routing to figure out the best configuration.
Getting the hose lengths right is always a bit of a challenge, especially allowing for movement and rotation.
To help with this, I’ve made a very rough dipper jig that I can take with me when getting the hoses made. It should allow me to mock everything up properly and account for the rotation on the bucket.

Looks superb. What colour you going for. Union Jack I hope!Everything is now fully welded together.
I’m planning to get the hoses made up next week, and after that it should be just about ready for testing.
It’s definitely satisfying seeing everything finally coming together.
