Had a lot of experience doing a housing site in Bristol many years ago!! Mine capping and dealing with bell pits.

yeh a lot of mining around there .... mate used to have a shaft with a cap and manhole cover in the middle of his w/shop, Fishponds area ..... was soooooooooooooome hole and a great place to lose sh*t ..... lowered a lead lamp down it on 100m cable roll once ..... didn't find bottom, but was full of water ... could hear crap go splash whenever you dropped stuff down it.... he never ran out of 'space' to tip his crud in all the years he was there

down 'em summer of '76 (very loooong hooooooooot summer) local mountain was on fire for weeks and loads of old workings up there .... firemen had to rope themselves together, up there beating ... heather and peat topping was cooked and they were vanishing into 'holes' .... some a looot deeper than others
one hole still open up there fenced off ... too awkward to get at to attempt to fill and it is sooooooooooooooooooooooooome hole apparently

Said shaft got concreted up few weeks back now
All backfilled and placed old cap over the center so top is flush with ground level as a marker

I used my selector grab with a length of conveyor belt cable tied inside to stop damage to faces saved on slinging them up each time

That's happening this coming week everedge for path sides where no stone walling is needed the rest is going to be dry stone walled then the path will have hogging put down and compacted for final finish

stunning ... must've been some tricky angles to work at and some tight spots to negotiate
WTF is 'hogging' to make it that price ?? Our dumpies of decorative shingle're only 75 quid a bag

Yeah some fun angles and tricky bits low power cables on one part that had to be covered as only a few feet off them
It's a blended clay and gravel mix that you can get different shades and stone colours got to order enough or next batch will be slightly different if short
National trust use it a lot on their paths
You put it in minimum of 50mm and up to 100mm and compact with a plate compactor to seal it

interestingly I have a couple of projects coming up where the clients are asking for similar finish - so have been looking into a product called Natursol - which seems to be a crushed granite either 0-6mm / 0-10mm / 0-14mm blended with hydraulic lime.
Put it down between 5 and 10cm and compact it .... apparently you have to cover it while it cures for 24 hrs
They use it similarly here, for footpaths and in front of nice buildings etc, we have in front of a manoir and a camping car site to finish with it when we get to that stage.
