I've only used a grab once on a 13 tonner for an hour so can't remember how gentle you could be as was getting to grips with the controls

I don't know if selector grabs have any less feel to them but log grabs can definitely very delicate.

Regarding the best way, genuinely Hiluxman is on the nail. put your strap just over the point of balance so the post wants to sit upright but you "could" still man handle it. Once the bottom is in the hole it won't fall down/over (particularly if you have pre positioned a bit of twin wall pipe for the column to sit in)

Next up was rerouting an existing foul to avoid running into the neighbours system and connect into their own discharge into the road. Tricky job, not a lot of room, but turned out well.

Curious as to why they had this done. If connected into the neighbors then the main sewer maintenance is with the sewage under taker from the point it it is joint.

Curious as to why they had this done. If connected into the neighbors then the main sewer maintenance is with the sewage under taker from the point it it is joint.

I think they had issues in the past where the neighbours drains are collapsing and it was backing up into their property. A neighbourly dispute shall we say. It cost them a few thousand to change around so it must have been some argument!

Great variety of work well executed Ollie and all your kit looks in great Nick and smart lettered up. Nice colour scheme as well with it all be jcb or thwaites yellow. Looks very professional.

Well behind with my thread so these date back from February. Diary is full for the year, demand seems to be strong on a variety of work which is good.
Bit of tarmacking at the school, resurfacing a drive, then various pothole repairs and scars - 3cx was a perfect wheelbarrow.
Then it was Gunns on tour to the Isle of Wight for a garage base and retaining wall. No 120mph winds this time and a nice U10-5 - possibly the nicest micro I've ever driven - grades like the old ZX Hitachi's!! New Cormidi track barrow was rubbish - they have gone backwards!!!
Then my first proper 3cx job at the old Brooklands racetrack. Scraping moss off the banking. Heritage England tell us we can only use a rubber edge - no sweeping allowed before you all jump in with smarter ways to do it... 3cx was ideal and made a decent saving over hiring an 8t. Museum were very impressed with the versatility and I gained an extra days hire moving pallets, clearing another area and pushing up their compost bay so the backhoe idea works for me.
Last job was a small demo and new foundations on an extension for a local builder. Came in with the 8026 and did the job in 2.5 days when the builder thought it would be 5. Now technically that's doing myself out of work - but I got 3 easy days hire, builder was happy and he's not going to go to anyone else now is he. Its how I work, different to others but I like everyone to have a win out of business - it works better in the long run. And I've got other work to be getting on with too.
