I totally agree, it turns out he was from the Yemen & had only been in the Telford area a week! Where he came from before that I do not know.
The small town of Madeley (where this happened) gave the world the Longwall mining method as opposed to the more wasteful pillar & stall.
I cought by accident the Lib Dem Conference on Wetherspoons TV - it seems they are even more 'open borders' than Labour - I doubt it will gain them many votes at least not here

I did read that it costs double to build here exactly the same design of power station in the UK as a sister one in France. It may explain why French industrial electricity is nearly half the price of that in the UK

I think you'll find it's worse than that at times.

It's not just power stations. It's all infrastructure. And high end building.
I think most people on here would be beyond stund at the prelims on big jobs. Everyone is aware of it. But I don't think many realise just how much unproductive nonsense goes on the back ground.
And how much dead wood is in most these organisations.
We joke that they don't need A.I to replace these people. Just let a magic 8 ball answer emails and you will get more sense

used to get asked to quote steel jobs by big co.s ... usually an envelope an inch thick would arrive, mostly filled with a few drawings and 200 pages of 'contract' .. always went straight in the bin ... not worth the bother ... when 'the contract' doc.s are 10 or 20 times thicker than the actual job detail you just know it will be grief from the outset, let alone the completion

I quoted a walling job for the council (it was on a customers land)
Their gritter had overturned taking out a section of Devon bank/wall. It's a piss easy job with my working area all totally clear of the adjacent b road would have taken me 2-3 days with no fuss

Anyway council ended up organising it's repair. Full on traffic management- lane closure for the welfare unit, a s**t hired digger with no grab, and the usual gang . They started yesterday morning and by evening when I went back past they'd barely done a thing! Clearly no accountability over use of funds even at the small end of the scale

Speak to your local councillor. Or Julian Brazil. Julian is the head of DCC and doesn't like seeing money pissed away. Great chap tbh.
