Unfortunately got a crunchy 2nd gear on iveco 7.5t - might get it repaired before selling .... and recommendations for exchange unit etc

I know it sounds mean, but you are far better off knocking a chunk off the asking price if someone doesn’t like the feel of the gearbox. Let them have a good deal and the peace of mind of a recon box if they see fit.

Aha but french will want 3k knocked off because everything is a fortune here whereas I might get it done much cheaper ... so I wanted a ballpark to negotiate with

Depending on the type of crunch check the gear linkage cables
When they stretch or wear it can sometimes cause a bit of a crunch

ALWAYS makes for a smoother drive and change ....... unless it's an auto
..... you can make a crash box drive like a synchro doing it .... never drive a manual of any description any other way

I did have a quick butchers .... what a dog's dinner of a setup, 2nd and now very occassion 4th will do it, so that could possibly related to something been badly adjusted.

The daf setup is much better scania not to bad but every cable controlled lorry I've driven was unnecessarily hard work( I only drive well used lorry's so don't know what they are like new)

Yes its certainly never been that good .... never grating but there is a certain knack to it, next time it's pissing down I will have a good look and see if 2nd and 4th are related

There on a bar linkage not cables, least the one we cut up today was- either way sounds linkage related

"Crunchy' as in damaged tooth or ineffective syncro?
Many boxes run really light oils (or ATF) to reduce fuel consumption and give it a lighter shift.
Consider a heavier oil if it's the syncro and you may get away with the 'liquid rebuild'.
