" The government has announced a £200m programme of fitting solar panels to English schools and hospitals.

200 schools and 200 hospitals will be fitted with solar panels
The first project from Great British Energy, the new government-owned renewable energy investment body, is to put solar panels on around 200 schools and 200 NHS sites in England.
Around £80m in funding will support around 200 schools, alongside £100m for nearly 200 NHS sites, covering a third of NHS trusts, to install solar panels.

The first panels are expected to be in schools and hospitals by the end of this summer, saving schools money for the next academic year. "
Surely it doesn’t cost anywhere near half a million quid to install solar on a school or hospital? How do these projects get signed off ffs, what a massive waste of money?!

School roof we put a massive enclosure on around 2 heat pumps last year had the rest of the roof covered in solar panels. Next year they're all coming off then going back on so they can replace the roof. The year after that the school is getting closed!!! All in the name of 'decarbonisation', which as far as I can see consists of ripping out perfectly serviceable boilers and replacing them with heat pumps that aren't up to the job....

Surely they'll be getting better rates etc...
As usual the big lads will be in the trough screwing the government.
If ever there was a scandal that needs the lid lifting on it's big infrastructure projects.

another committee/quango that'll fail miserably ... but more jobs for the boys

" The NIC was created in 2015 to provide independent analysis and advice to the government to set out the UK’s long-term infrastructure needs. That its recommendations were so easily ignored by government – witness cancellation of the both northern legs of HS2 and slowness to deliver on energy projects – are testament to its failure. The NIC was meant to ‘take the politics out of infrastructure’ by building a consensus of experts. Yet infrastructure remains political – and prone to delays and cost over-runs.

In 2017 the NIC became an executive agency of the Treasury, thus losing its independence. Now the new government has gone a step further and merged it with the Cabinet Office’s own executive infrastructure office, the IPA.

While the National Infrastructure Commission has formally been abolished, the commissioners themselves – the independent experts – will now form an advisory council for NISTA. It is not yet clear how different, in practice, the NISTA Advisory Council will be from the National Infrastructure Commission. "
