Infact reading the manual, when you brake it actually used the motors first and the brakes second... Makes sense as the brakes are certainly different

a few are going for the one peddle system where you don't use a brake pedal, obviously its there for emergencies but in practice you don't need to use it. takes a bit of getting used to i would bet.

I have just bought through the business as 100% tax deduction

When you work out the cost vs say my old 2011 range rover it is staggering.

You need to do a couple of bits, one is get a price plan from a electric supplier which will give you economy 7 style price plans. Set the car to automatically charge between certain time in my case 12-4.30 am at 7kw then you can charge at 5p per KW and some cars will do 4 miles per kw. My route to work is around 8 miles so a net cost of 20p a day. or call it 30p and give myself some cover

My range costs me (per month)

£250 fuel
£50 tax
£83 depreciation minimum
£100 repairs and rubbish

Total £483 a month

A Audi Etron (80k car)

Tax - £0
finance is around £900 a month with 10k down
Tax saving is worth £316 a month overall

Range costs £483

Etron costs £900 minus £483 range costs minus £316 tax = net cost £101 a month for a brand new car with warranty.

You need a deposit ( mine will come from range sale) or buy outright and actually save money .

My man math is on point.

rangie 50, this isn't BIK as it would be astronomical for a Rangie.
audi 0 , offseeting £316 of tax you would have paid.

It maybe is but looking at the bigger scheme ie govt/country economy it's a balance between being green and keeping huge amounts of money going round between countries. Buying a car and keeping it going for 25 year doesn't do economies any good

I am a true petrol head, its hard to ignore the EV world imo depending on your use. For me to jump into a new Range which would be a better car btw , would cost a fortune, the first years tax alone is £2245.

The worrying thing is when BJ and his cronies start trying to recoup the lost revenue to it all.

Not entirely clued up on it all as I don’t buy cars through the company - a lot simpler to just use a pickup/van and claim everything back! Interesting to have another viewpoint on it all though!

In Australia in Melbourne iirc reading they have put a road tax on ev's and have to submit mileage to be taxed on yet other states they don't so ones in Melbourne are pissed right off

The Exchequer will have closely calculated this to ensure that they are not losing revenue for the foreseeable future.

All new cars except electric have a first year RFL premium. Another new revenue stream the past couple of years.
For private car sales, hybrids make up a high proportion of new car sales presently and they have a RFL, IIRC none are £0 at present.
For company cars, these have been traditionally diesel and continue to be for those users for which electric range is a stumbling block. Here the benefit in kind company car tax is increasingly crippling.

The exchequer will continue to milk the hydrocarbon market and at the same time incentivising the move to full electric.

I see the tipping point around 2030 when the majority of cars purchased are going to be electric and fuel revenues dip significantly. Then they will start a pay per mile road use tax. Probably black boxes in all new cars.

come 2030, you ain't gonna be able to buy anything other than leccy as petrol/diesel engine-ed sales will be banned ...... and can see 'em either being slender, or vast, running up to that date
I'd be more than happy to pay/mile ... we don't do a lot ..... and those that do'd finally contribute their fair(er) share to the wear and tear on the blacktop that those using it, doing maybe 50k a year cause to it

When it becomes prohibitively expensive for you and I to go for a drive reality will kick in..... Can't see pay by mile happening, more likely just blanket tax on electric cars most likely with the excuse that it's going to be used to upgrade the grid.

Once the majority of people have electric cars and new alternatives aren’t available the gov can charge howsoever they please for road tax/benefit in kind etc - they have to keep it cheap for now to gain momentum and change behaviour.

Just reading about the new Ford F-150 electric pickup. Looks like work stuff is on its way. Fully electric, will tow 10,000lbs (about 4500kg I think) and starting at $40,000, about £30,000. Supposed to do 300 miles loaded.
First electric work vehicle I've seen. The electric vans I've seen are more of a gimmick.
Hopefully they will bring out the Ranger equivalent otherwise by business plan is no more.

Its funny really isn't over here a lot get bleary eyed over how cheap yank pickups are in comparison to what we have over here, yet at the same time financially Ford are on their ar*e and have been for years. Still if you wanna subsidise soccer moms taking their kids to maccy d's
