I think owning an electric vehicle is a bit like owning a JCB. You get a huge amount of slagging off/abuse from people who don't own them. If you have done your research and bought the right vehicle/excavator for your use it will do the job you bought it to do. If you are an idiot you will be an idiot regardless what you buy.
A lot of the on line stuff either seems to be fake or written by people electric vehicles are probably not suitable for. I know a few people with electric vehicles and they all love them, apart from one guy who is an idiot and keeps letting the charge run right down so if he has an unexpected journey he doesn't have enough juice. If you keep it charged up you should never have an issue unless you bought the wrong vehicle for you.
Some people buy them to save the world (which I think is unlightly) or to virtue signal, but I think most buy them for the tax advantages and ease of use.

Pretty accurate summary about the tax except I'd say the electric car owners seem to be about the most defensive folk I've ever met

I think a lot of it is because the are fed up with being called idiots. They are not even told that in someones opinion they may have made a poor decision, but told as a fact they are stupid.
It is weird electric vehicles and probably Brexit people seem to feel their view against is the only valid view and anyone who disagrees must be stupid. I see a lot of what I consider poor decision making, but feel no urge to tell the people they are stupid. They obviously have their reasons and who am I to say they are wrong, even though I would not do what they are doing.

When I eventually get around to building my new workshop, I’m going to solar panel half the roof, add in a powerwall(big battery) then I think we will get a little electric run around car, should work out reasonably good value I’d say.
*no maths has gone into this equation, I’m just assuming it will make sense

Friend of mine has just put a Tesla motor into a 1976 Porsche 911, When i first looked at the car he was pulling those orange cables through the tunnel to the rear of the car, I said WTF is that cable! Then he showed me the motor in situ, The whole of the luggage area in the front was all batteries, I said the owner would have been better of restoring the bodywork first before changing the car to electric. It cost a small fortune to do the conversion too.

Just been at my uncle in laws in the wye valley he’s got a p90 ludicrous Tesla, beats my rally driving brother in laws m5 in a drag race seriously quick thing. he’s got 50kw solar array at the end of his garden and Tesla power wall but bought his when you got charging included. They’re fantastic bits of engineering.

For the petrol heads he also has a e type drop head, db7, 911 turbo, 2cv and porche cayenne but Tesla is his main run about and when the suns shining the solar is either charging car or powering the house.

I’d have one of those Rivian pickups just not at £120k and not at current electricity prices.

The pic @pettsy put up can’t be right though 277kwh does not equal £19k we use more than that in a quarter

think you're going to be shocked at the cost of doing it ..... could buy an AWFUL lot of fuel to bang in a frugal run around for the same bucks ... aside from buying the leccy chariot
