I don't think I would credit the majority with knowing what they want. Most people want what the car manufacturers tell them they want. And in turn the manufacturers have to keep telling them they want something new or different to keep selling cars.

Very true, at the end of the day manufacturers are trying to shift as many cars as they can.

I just hope that in however many years time the authorities make it as painless as possible to reregister an existing car as converted to electric, but I can't see it happening...

Don't complain - suggest what's better
To be fair, a lot of the extra size and weight of new cars comes down to legislation, both safety and emissions. Cars used to be for getting from A-B and driving enjoyment, now safetyism seems to have got to everything.

They can manage to build the vw up perfectly well. The space around the driver seat of the 4 door up is greater than a ranger rover (I know they won't compete on comfort but still I like space) yet will nigh on fit in the range rovers boot.

On a (very loosely) semi-related topic to this thread there is a Paris Dakar racer called Guirlain Chicherit who has various businesses including one that supplies natural-gas powered buses and another that is apparently bringing electrification to the WRC (he essentially makes big money on the back of wokey dokey green ideology). However, his profile pic for Dakar is him in an AC/DC T-shirt (no pandering to corporate sponsorship) and his V8 petrol powered Toyota Hilux is going to be painted like the Fall Guy’s truck - what an absolute legend!!!

and that is just to keep up :rolleyes: ..... it's a damned good job the leccy chariot uptake is no where near what they'd hoped for and is actually stalling, or we'd be in the deepest of sh1t for our usual everyday needs, let alone vehicle charging :mad:

I think they forget its only the minority that want all this extra shite in their vehicles.

I've just let one of my top spec hilux go and replaced with a poverty spec isuzu and they poverty spec is better than what the hi spec lux was. Most of the s**t on it, I don't want or need.

Yes I've owed range rovers, not poverty spec ones either but looking back did I ever need or use any of the gizmos they came with...no, not one bit.

So I do agree that all these posh eV are nothing but the same, but only surrounded in the green s**t spouted in a bubble around them, nothing is 'green' about them.

It just won't work, the whole electric agenda is pure fantasy land. Average age of cars on the road is 10 (18.7 in my house or 12 if the rx7 isn't included) majority of electric vehicles will be dead or way beyond economical repair by that point.
That's without the environmental damage of mining for the rare metals.
Vehicles over the years have got bigger, mainly from a safety point of view with crumple zones but also caused from market trends, SUV's have taken over, ford and others have dropped the more "traditional" saloons and all selling suv's in a range of sizes. Audi and Merc both sell SUV versions, which is pretty much the whole of their range, ford dropped the Mondeo for a suv, e mustang is a suv and the revival of the Capri is apparently also a bloated suv
Large "Tesla" style screens are here to stay, they do influence sales
Forcing people to buy small electrics or use taxis just won't work
