Pretty sure you’d not want to be risking the pants down scenario if caught using that on a building siteswap out the mast for my forks in the pic below -- I could do second lift with the 'Drema (3rd, 4th & 5th with the mast on) -- 1st lift'd be a POP

Yes I have endured the wrath of my wife on numerous occasions whilst on holiday for commenting & spending too long checking out small building sites with small site cranes!
They often however look dodgier & uncertified as some of @V8Druid s contraptions!

When it comes to handling with a wheeled excavator the Mecalac does take a lot of beating, its not so much about its outright lift capacity its about the geometry, the Mecalac boom geometry allows you to work with pallet forks a lot closer to the machine and lift vertically from there. As Tom mentioned you can overcome the bucket cylinder if you need to bring something down from height but depending on the height you are lifting to it can be worked around by altering the geometry of the boom sections.
They are an immensely capable machine but they do need an operator who is adaptable and able to understand how he can make it work for them rather than dismissing it right away because they don't operate quite like a traditional machine. Cost is certainly a factor too but if they can work for you then this becomes less relevant. There is an owner operator in Cornwall with a 9MWR who used to work solely for a local developer and did most work with that machine, so its certainly capable of what you are looking for.

O/A length ... don't forget there's a lot out front on a BHL or a duck especially a mono boomed one ... a 3CX is 5.9m, so 3.1m including the draw bar and whatever form of coupling you fit to the back of the BHL ... gonna be a camping size trailer on a duck
