been a very busy day
set these out first thing ... couple of bits I lopped yesterday

and chopped em up with the 'rotary hacksaw'

haunches for Josh's beams
managed to set fire to meself in the process .... forgot fleeces and disc spatter don't mix well

was a tidy fleece too in the dog house for knackering it

set up the first one and got it tacked up

and sequentially welded up

gotta love a nice 'peeler
and on to the next one ...

Josh's missus has give Pam instruction to get plenty of pix of progress and the process ... hence yesterday's pic of me drilling the plates ..... and this one again today

see what Rory can make of this one

two down .........

two more to do ... other longer portions of these to make up the 5.5m span for the loft floor

and on to no 4 .... light disappearing rapidly ... ... but got it done

Pam appeared with a 'when do you want/are you ready for food', 'bout half six ..... usually it's a FFS come in and eat ... but as the job was for #1 son ... it was a LOT more flexible tonight ... which TBH was good ... saved me having to get it all out again in the a.m. for a few welds to finish off

Got a dose of 18mil holes to insert into the centre webs tomorrow to bolt some timber trimmers to, for the joist hangers, coat of paint, then hopefully, if I wrap 'em well I can stick 'em in the post to Plymouth

then on to the next lil' project

the frustrating thing is Kev .... they'd 've been a morning's work in my old w/shop .... PFC straight on the roller beds and through the saw, cropped the end plates on the ironworker, set the stops on the punch table and bump the 18,s out with the punch, PFC,s on the rollers and punched the 18,s in the centre webs, haunches plasma-ed to shape and all on the benches for MIG-ing up in an hour or so .... been too bloody windy here for the MIG, last couple of days, so stick had to be the order of the day .. half a box of rods in those

LOL ..... feeling like I've been run over this morning .. been a busy week, dealing with more steel than i've seen in a looooong time, sorting it out and then them on top, to round it off ... most 'exercise' I've had in a long time, mostly thanks to the bloody weather ..... beautiful here again this morning .... 'spose I ought to go drill some 18,s in those PFC,s

so ...... another beautiful day here .... got all the usual morning tish sorted and turned my attention to ...

getting some holes in these

broach time .... sod piloting and drilling 28 holes in the webs.
first one done .. and i needed it out the way .. at 100+kgs, humping it wasn't an option

so woke up Lil' Jake and enlisted his assistance

stuck that one on the deck and grabbed a shorty from the same spot

process repeated for the next shorty
then 'trubble' arrived

and work stopped for a few hours ..... lunched, supervised, while she brushed all sorts off and eventually departed a few hours later and managed to get the rest of 'em perforated .....
last hole ....

and parked with the rest .....

ready for some shiny/satin tish ..... and no it won't be Druid gold or brown ... hopefully still got some HBZP grey oxide in the stores somewhere
job for tomorrow ...... pick it all on the forks and paint it all on them ..... be like old times

then they gotta head for Plymouth.

not on their own they ain't .. 360kgs but it's a flog -- 330 mile round trip, plus the 20 mile distance, each way to Rory's, etc. and all his not insubstantial forks, carriage and 4 axles that must be going a quarter of a tonne on their own ... I'll weigh the forks, next time they're airborne ... read - HEAVY .. as is the carriage too

think I've done enough, making 'em and donating them to 'the cause' ...
someone else can deal with the tranny ...

Yeah I agree there. Sounds like you've done above and beyond already. Let alone the agro taking them and for what it costs to send something nowadays it's a no brainer in subbing that bit out.

Had similar recently on 2 jobs, my lorry was earing money while parked up as it was more cost effective letting someone else do it.

well having had a measure up ... that's the design work done for the next lil' job .....

would've gotten started on it today but had a few 'can you justs' to deal with first and didn't leave a lot of day to me ... out with Russ tomorrow and Thursday, loading out bits of battle ship, so'll have an uninterrupted day on it Friday, hopefully

Pam wanted a hand to clear all her tommy growing stuff out the polytunnel to start

that bloody old furniture has got to go would've been in the woodshed, long since, if I had my way with it

and as the lawn'd dried out well by three today .... it had to have it

didn't look too bad for a first cut and had a LOT off it ....

did the edge of the paddock beside the drive, just to tidy it a bit ....
the rest is a Dane jobbie and needs a few more days drying in the sun first ...
pretty slick still ...
four good barrow loads there to trundle down to the grass dumping ground ... the Countax's collector compacts it well .... took some shaking out

I bloody hate Hereford .....

20 minutes for 14 miles to get to the outskirts, then 35 min.s to do the last three to where I was going ... like this most of the way ... I love my auto box .... pedestrians were travelling faster

loads skidded out, waiting and truck sat waiting too ... 30 minutes and loaded both seven tonne lumps .... took longer to lift and spread his tarps on over the placcy covers

move for the 14 tonner ....

and wait 45 minutes for the next truck ....
we were expecting to be there most of the day ..... wrapped and away by 11.30 ..... three more tomorrow ..... I'd've had 4 trucks booked for today and job done
'nother 25 min.s to get the flock out 'o the 'Ford

left 10 minutes earlier today ...... still queues, but rolling and arrived on site 5 minutes early, instead of the five minutes late, that I was yesterday.

07.59 ready to rock

two 7 tonners on the truck, chained down and tarp. lifted/hauled over and secured ....
next truck into spot, 14 tonner on and chained by 08.59

slings stowed, block on the deck and re-reeved for a departure, after hauling the next huge tarpaulin onto the 14. to cover their placcy waterproof and stop it escaping

Wrapped up and ready to leave after a leisurely brekky by 10.01

's what you'd call 'a nice little earner'

beautiful day here again .... got the saw set up for a bit of PFC trimming

gotta make me a roller head for me saw stands .. that log trestle's better than sod all, but hard work and got quite a bit of saw work coming up

bloody PFC always arrives with crap ends, where it's cropped in the mill ... need a trim off

got all the bits of channel lopped

and dropped some flat in for connection plates ...
always keep flats packed up in the air ....
much quicker cut than flogging through the full width with it, at the bottom of the vice ....... nicer cut and kinder to the blade too

got the plates set out and holed before tea time got called .....
can get it all together tomorrow with any luck

need to get the chassis extension attached to Mog's Deutz subframe after this ... need the whole bench top for the next couple of jobs after that ... AND would like to get on with that lil' project too
