noticed yesterday whilst sorting the various ports on the hyd tank, with new fittings, that there was 'an odd' one, I'd not noticed before ... and obviously busted

hiding inside it was this

having extracted the sili bit, could see a decent chance of getting a purchase on the inner bore with the right weapon

tee handled screwy I'd made years ago from some nice air driver bits I'd picked up in an army surplus place and've been excellent over the years for anything 'tough' ... some nice bits of steel in 'em .
and out it came .. sweet as ....

obviously an oil level alarm sensor, at return port level ..... be nice to acquire a new one, but not critical, as this is unlikely to ever be operating remotely or unobserved and has a decent sight glass for level ob.s too.

Alex'd called round the day before, with some sundry bits of steel, he'd been sorting at his workshop that he no longer wanted and'd donated 'em to me ... in amongst it all was something suitable to extend the Deutz's chassis, so suitably enthused about making some progress, I turned my attentions to the oil cooler and sussing its dimensions and WTF it was likely to end up


existing mount was a seriously heavy lump .. and too wide for my current thought on the build, so whipped that off and have a suss on a new carrier to suit the chassis width ...

so having measured it all up and had a reasonable idea of what I wanted, set about a lump of ex-pylon (BTLs) 5 x 2.5 RSC ..... was perfect for what I wanted to the millimeter .. as in zero off cut ... 4x2'd've been a bit better, scale - wise but this was gonna do

ran out of pix privilege's above and daylight by the time i'd gotten it assembled

been a decent day, as the sky would indicate .... was 16-17C here yesterday and real still ... down to 10C today before the breeze picked up and took it even further down the scale ... been well chilly this afternoon ..

the the little package from Mog the other day ....

was a bit I'd asked him to have a look on his man riding cradle for .......
a chunk out of the Deutz's crank pulley, that'd obviously fallen victim to a chain, getting loaded, when it came down to me ...
pulley was fresh and clean break when it arrived

finding a n other / new pulley for it was going to be some task, so it's gonna have to get very carefully repaired and having the bit that came out is a bloody good start

came wrapped up in this .......

reckon you need a MUCH bigger box than that Mog

me chassis is gonna have to wait a few days now though .... had planned to carry on in the morning ..... 'til Pam reminded me that; I have a pile of balloons to inflate with helium in the morning and get down the village hall for half ten .... along with a load of Pam's baking and sundry scoffable bits .... Clara has 20 of her schoolfriends and folks coming at twelve for her birthday party ... so that's knackered any progress tomorrow.
Monday and Tuesday are shot too ... early start at 6 from here -- -- out with Russ for a couple of days ... weather looks decent though and Wed.s could well be another bench day ... might need me thermals though

you an' me both ... either got to get some oil into the pump's circuits or pull them off the back end of the motor to do that

have watched Diesel Creek's roof ... he's not got an a*se h*le for a neighbour and lives somewhere a little less restricted than we do

have also considered linked boxes .... they could've picked some better condition boxes to do that with ... roofs are a bit on the rough side in a couple of those pix ..... roof stability is the main issue with summat like that ... want a fair beam to clear span 40 ft

problem with cover is lifting ability once covered ....... and it needs to be nailed to the planet up here .... we get a LOT of wind

day 1 didn't start well .... we had some sort of frost here last night and took me 10+ minutes to get the windows ice free, for the 'flight' to Russ's place ...... due to being 10 minutes late leaving .... and 'kin cold. Was much warmer by the time we'd arrived and he'd had the night heater on for 20 minutes so the theme continued, 'til we got to site .... beautiful morning and sun coming up nicely .... shame about the sodding big tree shading where I've been lurking about all day ... and was getting well chilly by three.

Again Russ can pick 'em .... tight ol' lane to site, but a decent turn round and stand

steel work in first ... nice lads but little idea ... not a podgy between em ... nicely fabbed stuff .... shame the Fab. drg. guy wasn't as good .. out all over the place ... guessed it was gonna be loong day when the first guy on site after the boss was the fabricator with all his gear and proceeded to add 10" to an upright
they'd stuck a couple of bit in with a telehandler last week, painfully slowly apparently

these and several others were a reach too far for said weapon

would love to meet the guy who spec.-ed 400 x 200 RHS .... he obviously wasn't picking up the bill for it

anyway ... steel in .. concrete beams next

max reach with their front steel in ..... those remotely controlled work/flood lights under the boom are a grand each and came within about 20mm of being second hand to get the stretch

and this was the point it got called for the day ... things weren't fitting like they were supposed to and some head scratching was required along with some manual juggling .... and no they're not all on their phones ... the drawings were

along with the architect and the structural design engineer .. multiple times.

Gonna get worse tomorrow some weird shapes to fill / cover and then 30 odd packs of 'pots'/blocks to crane up with a grab .... in half packs to distribute the loading about

Can't fault the guys as a gang though .. nice bunch and'd happily work with 'em again ...
much like the mob in Lydney back in the summer ...... Russ has already had to decline a four day-er in Aylesbury with 'em ... uncompetitive with digs, subs., etc. ... a trek too far for only 4 days and too many competitors in that area .. no matter how much they like you .

you got that bit right, but ommitted to add --
spec.ed by a structural engineer complete knob head and then drawn by a fabrication drg draftsman/designer -- utter pr*ck with no idea ...

have had way more than my fair share of 'em all, over the years. nothing went on the shop floor before I'd been through it with a fine tooth comb, revised what was necessary, sent the relevant 'party' my revised drg.s and asked for them to be sent back duly amended and signed, before striking a blow!!

the guy who fab.ed this lot'll not be doing any more for this particular 'bellend' ..... can see the revisions in the steel where the holes have been filled and re-drilled, bits lopped or added on ... complete pig's guts and as for the spec.s
seriously OTT ... the lads have done well to juggle it all about to make it fit ..... almost ... a few pairs of beams, tight together, with no access pockets cut/spec.ed to get at the centre connections, to fit or dog up ... if yer's gonna pair 'em do it in the shop with single full end plates and doweled locators where you can't get at the fixings

didn't see 'em yesterday as they'd been moved 'fore we arrived

crane wrapped up and ready to roll by 1.00 pm, quick scoff and we were away ... back at Russ's by ust after 2 and flew back to chez Druid to collect Clara from school, as she'd asked if I was picking her up today so she could have some time with me.
Pam went back to Plymouth with Josh et al, on Sunday evening, having done me treatment 12 hrs early (we have a 24 hr window for it), so been "home alone" not as I've seen much of it ... hopefully a bench day tomorrow, assuming i wake up at a reasonable hour .... have had about 18 hrs sleep since last Friday morning ... full zombie mode tonight, so will hopefully sleep like the proverbial dead tonight.

crane wrapped up and ready to roll by 1.00 pm, quick scoff and we were away ... back at Russ's by ust after 2 and flew back to chez Druid to collect Clara from school, as she'd asked if I was picking her up today so she could have some time with me.

not much else is gonna put those blocks on the deck about 18ft up and Russ is reaching about 20+ metres with those .... would be easier if the bloody grab had auto latched as it should have ... had 16 packs up in less than an hour

yeh I looked at the gap an' thought ... recipe for damp / crap build up / vermin / smells /whatever .... lots of water barriers / membranes / etc .. outside the legos .... seemed an odd set up to me too ... but having seen the architect's bell end's abilities elsewhere
builders reckoned they had 3000 tonne out of there

I hope they've got them lego block retaining walls designed properly. Unlike an engineered wall they rely purely on mass to work. If they are high they need to be fairly wide low down and usually lean back. I've seen pics of them a lot lower than 20ft getting pushed over by weight behind.
