Is your broadband still slow gra? That may not be helping some updates are sizeable...
Normally they do update pretty quick these days ..
Macs ain't infallible contrary to popular belief .

Good broadband is as necessary as mains power, so it's a pain on an unreliable slow connection with any computer.
Mac's are not infallible, but much more reliable and easier to troubleshoot than Windows PCs. When the hardware and the OS comes from the same source it's going to work better than the hardware manufacturer being beholden to the OS supplier.

I've been selling and servicing Apple Macs and other Apple products for over 20 years and most of my customers never have a problem. In fact most of the problems are with the computer users who are sucked in by scam ads/phone calls and self inflicted malware. Oh and those cups/glasses of water/wine/beer/coffee/champagne etc which end up in the computer innards. Liquids and electronics are not a good mix

Hehe, I did possibly think you was....I just had my serious head on today lol.

My l322 is going for test tomorrow after 18mths of inactivity, I don't get to drive anything bar the work trucks nowadays.

Good luck with the 322 .... can't imagine they like sitting a great deal ... (sat live or disconnected??) ... what year and motor is it ?

My 'handicap' has just arrived .... try typing with 16lbs of Squeak in the way ...

just killing 20 minutes 'fore I go get Clara ..... he loves stretching out on the desk

been a bitty-ish morning ... washing m/c making odd noises so had the lid off whilst it was performing ... see if i could see why ...... and found a bit of a horror story

can't decide if they've been chafing on each other badly .... or a bloody rodent .. I'm going with chafing, looking at them ... no issues lower in the machine and no droppings anywhere to be seen, to indicate one of Mickey or Toppo Gigio's relatives had been helping himself ...... amazed there'd not been any sort of consequences - YET!!
so got the tape out and re-insulted everything and nailed it all down, suitably spaced out to try and prevent a repeat ....... not the most spectacular job in the world, but'll do for now .... had the boss in my ear giving me grief about (a) turning the damned thing off, mid flight and (b) she wanted to put more in it. ...... Heath Robinson'd be proud of it

couldn't see any causes for the odd noises .... other than perhaps a dose of over enthusiastic loading ..... bloody good job I bolted it to the floor a while back, or it'd 've been on its way out the back door, 'til it ran out of lead

well the twenty minutes, pre Clara collecting, wasn't enough time and I'm now back to it, after she's had some tea, entertained her and she's departed with Daddy.
had a bit of time on the Deutz control panel yesterday ... sorted what was going where .........

and got it in place ....

laid in all the spare tails I am going to need (plus a few extra, 'praps) whilst I was doing it and it's now ready for a.n.other day like Sunday's glorious blue sky day to pull the Deutz's cover and get t'other half sorted out, plus some extras, loomed in.

Oh and me 'handicap' is back in his favourite place, stretched out across the desk, purring fit to bust

Never made it today. The 2 hour and you'll be away turned into a 10hour job. My bit was over within the hour but they bent a ram on the skidsteer so had to move 2 lorry fulls in a site where you had to drive out if you needed to use the other end on the jcb.

Re booked for Friday. I have given it a run round every so often. Old battery was boardline so poped an nice new one this eve as I intend on giving her abut more use now my Mrs has taken my lux

This WAS tight. They just needed umph of the jcb to peck out the coni base but seen as the skidsteer was kaput I was asked could I just....anyone else it would of been no but the guys asking have helped me many times over the years so I couldn't say no. Job was done, skills tested and they have a happy customer.

er .... large .... used to work in a shop that might've handled them .... could certainly swing bigger dia. ...... had a Poreba that'd swing 40t between centres .... can't recall the bed length but was BIG .. used to recondition mill rollers from steel works mostly Llanwern and Port Talbot

yes, there wasn't much that we could not do back then ..... the most impressive was the start of the industrial revolution when things were being made by hand to 'improve' how things were done - how was the first lathe made for instance ?? or any machine tool for that matter - by hand !!! ....... most of the machinery for the cotton industry is remarkable - looms, etc. and many still functional today, at incredible speed .... they were engineers back then, truly remarkable people
As you say, the 'heavy' side was also quite amazing, particularly when much of their equipment was pretty 'primitive' and mostly down to the skill of the people operating it .... modern machine tools are still only as good as the man driving it

you'll know only too well @Giles that the 'engineering' that goes into the foundations of this kit is equally impressive ... the Poreba lathe I spoke of had 14 ft deep founds under it, with maybe 3-4 ft of the lathe below G/L / operating floor level.
once had a tour around the Bronx Engineering place in Lye .... had a horizontal borer pushing 40 ft tall ... main column was one casting - huge , with an extended roof, above it ... had a shaper with a 20ft stroke ... chap sat on the end of the arm, operating the clapper block, reading a book ..... engineering on a big scale

I recall that the “ shear / punch” that chopped and punched track shoes from bar stock, sat on a block of concrete that was isolated from the rest of the floor in the Glasgow Caterpillar factory. It gave a fair old thump.

My old man's work bench for years was a 5ft dia face plate sat on an off cut of 4ft dia steel pipe
Was solid and great for beating stuff on but Everytime you put something small down it would fall through the holes. Unfortunately it got borrowed when he moved workshops and claimed by someone who now has it as a garden ornament

hard to believe this little lady was 6 today

waited 'til after school to do the Happy Birthday bit ... good job i still got a W balloon gas for such occasions won't be long 'fore we're pushing her new sister up and down the drive trying to get her off to sleep ... seems like a lifetime since we were doing it for Clara

Squeak must've read my post about him hogging the desk the other night .... he'd moved over a bit earlier .........

......... 'fore I departed for an evening supermarket hit ... stock up for the weekend .... J and family home from Plymouth to eat us out of house and home .....
always nice and quiet after 8 of an evening ... me an' about a dozen people

didn't last long though, came back to find him stretched full length and having to reach over 'my handicap' again, to type

saved the hassle of shopping for him this month ... bought a load on line .. was 'sposed to be two big boxes, not the six usual sized ones that turned up, with the worst packaging job ever .... even DPD's driver took photos of it, so his lot could register their displeasure with the sender... this is not an acceptable job for dispatch on a carrier ... .......... amazingly all there
