new 'toy' arrived this morning

..... bought off a lad locally on FB about 5 weeks ago ..... got a machine shop on his dad's farm and having a juggle of spare/redundant kit, making room for some new CNC machining centres arriving next week.
His dad has Parkinsons so he is also shielding/being extremely careful about contact and where he goes.
Told me this morning that he'd always wanted to call in my old workshop, for a nosey/shufty, but never got there

, so we spent a bit of time talking kit and its merits

.... have an open invitation to his place as and when it's possible -- only 10 miles away -- never knew he was there

looking forward to that

anyway .... this was too good not to be had .....
have had loads of these over the years .... but never seen one with a #2MT quill

... only ever with a 14mm chuck on a Jacob's taper -- 2MT'll handle a 7/8" / 22mm drill
he apologised for it not being immaculate, but'd given it a bit of a clean

was a bit of a lump for two of us to get out of his Hilux so ran the 'Drema up and slipped it into a box .... he liked the Harrison, we sat it in front of, for now.
gave a it a bit of a 'clean off' earlier and picked the head back up
has cleaned up pretty well for a quick brush off/wipe over

..... rare to get a s/hand drill with zero marks in the table

.... very happy with this.
he ran it on a VFD as it's 3ph ..... am considering doing the same -

- sadly he'd taken it off before he advertised it and stuck it on summat else ... would be handy for slowing it down a bit ....
perfectly acceptable speed range, but'd be handy to be able to run it slower for countersinking or broaching, so'll need to go shopping for a VFD unit later now I have the motor plate for reference

... have been looking since buying it, but not committed yet
surprised how low a wattage is on there -- (did rotate that, but has reverted to side on for some reason??) so isn't going to need a huge unit, plus I can always run it off the genny when it's wound up too.

seem to recall
@Rob65 knows a bit about VFDs .... am I right Rob?
have looked at these as options ... this as a dedicated unit for the drill only, fitted to it

and have also been considering one of these to perhaps run the Harrison for the odd quicky/light requirement -- it is 7.5Kw /10hp on full draw
anything heavy / longer duration work I'd run the genny ... would probably be a lot cheaper and less stress on the VFD
question is would option three be the better long term option for every requirement

-- got a 3ph saw bench, the band saw, belt grinder and a couple of other 3ph bits, all under 10hp /7.5Kw .... set it up with output sockets for trailing lead connections, wall mounted and properly 'plumbed in'
one major concern I have with these things is ... none of 'em seem to have any cable grips, other than their connection screws

anyone have any experience / knowledge they'd like to share please
