in light of:-
Reo's return yesterday
an early call to the local 'Turpin's Emporium' was in order for some more sand/agg and cement .. delivery scheduled for today ... On the phone at 12 yesterday ... "
I'm on me way up with a 16 tonner, can I turn alright? " "
well you did last time and I can soon get you round " ..... in, turned and on his way back out so's I could get up behind him and off it all ..... much quicker than his Hiab, I get it exactly where i want it and he just has to hook 'em on the bag lifter ... Happy driver
eight dumpies and 30 bags of cement later, added to the existing pile and he was away
Reo is now fast approaching his imminent completion of the wall run
well this week maybe

and
and all of us, the possibility of getting locked down on Friday for a few weeks.
So some concerted stone slab shopping was required ... he only lives a few miles away ... is more than happy to be 'isolating' here and as he's as much at risk as I am with his diabetes, he too is very careful with his contacts and movements, so we're both content for him to be here carrying on
had rung around a few places yesterday and again first thing this morning and had a 'list' (all be it a short one) of possible sources .. so we left him a large flask of coffee and departed on a tour ... grabbed a new strimmer head on the way past the local chain saw emporium, as they'd said they'd have new stock this week ... they did ..... at a price - gone up 50% since the last one was acquired

... didn't bode well as an omen for the day

pit stop at a local garage cum Arkwright's ... 7 a.m. til 10 p.m. 365 for some pumpkins for a certain little girl, later in the month - plan ahead - get 'em while we can ... and into Hereford heading for Tudors (a merchants I'd spoken to earlier) "
nope wrong branch mate" having been told it was the one i wanted

.. would've been so much easier to go to their main yard, where I was now directed to .... "
all we've got is down the bottom of the yard mate" ALL 20mm despite telling said individual on the phone i wanted 38-40mm flags .... 'kin waste of energy .. and time .. tried a couple of other places ... all recommended ... **** knows why ?! ... did discover a great agg yard with some serious choice ... of decorative gravels, etc. and some sort of stock of all sorts, including some very nice flags ... 90% of which were 12/16/20mm thick ....FFS ... they did have some nice copes .. 60mm thick and 400 wide AND grey

....
Reo'd asked us to pick him up a new steel shafted brick hammer somewhere, as he'd left his fave in Norfolk, he'd concluded, after emptying the TT looking for it .....
you'd think I was asking for unicorn poo in these merchants!

Guy in Tudors had said they had had one ... but it was busted ... head had come off it .."
No prob.s .. i can weld " ... "
so we chucked it out"

... I'd've rather he hadn't told me

Detoured to HRPC's for some new boiler burner nozzles for Vicki's Danesmor - in case - could not recall whether I'd left a spare there on the last service or not .. and grabbed one for our Grant too ... has never been changed (but hasn't needed to be -touch wood) --- be prepared!!
'Nother merchants who's name i can't even recall ... it was so memorable and helpful - not ... then round to Esscos, for some sparklers ... almost out of 2.5 rods ... .... 's funny ... could've sworn they were on the right last time I was here, not the left ??? "
you guys moved? " they had and explained why I wasn't now standing in their
oh so fancy showroom/display area, instead of this 40 ft high warehouse, at a poverty stricken plywood trade counter, with the FLT driver telling me he'd go find someone

anyway ... transpired that what I wanted they no longer stocked ..... but he did recall seeing a pallet of 'em somewhere on the racking .. the 40ft high racking!!

Five minutes wander about and we had said pallet on the floor .. and i'd extracted a carton ... much button punching later and he'd found a price ... was I interested in the whole pallet full, 'cos they could do me a deal

.. only about a tonne of rods ... another time, another life, i would've been well up for it .. but not today sadly. "
so you don't love these rods then? ... two for one then ?? "

"
aye why not "

... so had 40kgs of E6013 rods for half price .... and they'm quite a nice rod

....
might give 'em a month or two and see how cheap the pallet'd be ?

I'd never use 'em all, but they'd be a very good VFM line on Fleabay .....
also had four 6' x 4' low sided pallets on the floor, crammed full of end of line items "
any interest? " ... all sorts .. Tweco mig torches, masks, gloves, gauntlets, spatter sprays, grinding belts, allllll sorts ... in the day I'd have been all over 'em ... "
sadly not today, thanks" ...
so left there .. hit the nearest supermarket, for a few odds an' sods and headed home, past the 'quarry' guys where we'd started last time ..... having decided we were gonna have to bite the bullet and get 'stung' to get what we wanted ..... seeing as they appeared to be the only place 'round here that had "plenty" of what we wanted!!
Collared Rhiannon, who we'd dealt with last time and presented her with me list of exactly what I wanted, size wise and quantities ... "
er - i'd better go check stock " ... "
thought you'd said you had loads of stock " "
we did - last time you were here " 5 days ago !!
comes back 5 minutes later with a list .. of what she didn't now have

and what she had left ....
"g
imme ten minutes whilst i go re-work how i can make those sizes work " sat in the Golf - calculator out and start sussing ..
five minutes later the phone rings and it's me consultant from Cardiff, for a phone consult -- booked for four this afternoon ... it's currently two o'clock ... so that knackered half an hour's calculating!!

Eventually had it sussed, Rhiannon got them all organised and paperwork sorted to deliver it all Thursday lunchtime .... and I got relieved of a considerable amount of folding beer vouchers............... but ... mission accomplished, flags sourced, sorted and paid for .... time for a cuppa.
whilst Rhiannon'd been checking her stock, i'd been wandering around their cutting yard ... and found these ...
dunno HTF they'd manage to load and transport that top piece ... was the size of the bed and about 5-6" thick .... some slab of stone for sure.. told her to cut it down to 600s and i'd take that

Oh and I'd managed to get a coat of shiny tish on these yesterday

hammered it down here last night .... and's having a n other concerted go tonight too ..... forecast fr tomorrow is GRIM !!

Reo's sheet-ed the wall down, 'fore he went tonight and said he'd see us Thursday ..... yellow weather warning for here tomorrow
'S been an expensive day
