Yes, have you watched the one where he tests vices to destruction?
no ... not yet ... he can obviously afford to destroy 'em ... he's a fortune's worth of tooling in his milling cutter draws, let alone the rest of his w'shop ........... youtube must be a hell of an earner  .. comes across as a nice guy ... bloody good with the TIG :giggle:(y)

Think he likes the auctions. No way you'd wind up with such a variety of tooling otherwise. He said he bought the CNC mill just for the tooling!

yeh .... he probably had the m/c for scrap value, against the tooling prices .. those 4 vices would not be cheap new ... rack vices are 'spensive  .... old CNC stuff doesn't make big money ... you have to be able to drive 'em ... can't just jump on and wind the handles :( ....
the big lathe's a beauty ... pity it's such a long bed, but he has the space to use it as a tool rest/store most of the time ... at 3.5" mandrel and #5 MT quill, it equates to a Colchester Mastiff ... I'm still searching, but a Mascot'd do at a push ;)

He said that the machine was basically free against the cost of the tooling. I'm surprised he's not done a conversion to a more modern control, he was talking about adding a streaming interface to the tape input so he could load from his laptop.

yeh .. as said - older CNC stuff just doesn't sell well at all .... I did know for a very nice CNC lathe that was very cheap (and local) .... but no idea HTF to drive it ... and the enclosures made it a big lump :(

Which make of paint do you use Graham? Looking for some myself but it needs to stand up to the weather.

I have no idea, but if I were to be given one, I'd look to just rewire the motors to a new control system - there's plenty of open source solutions out there. Failing that, replace the motors with new ones and have suitable adapters made up.

If you are interested, have a look at This Old Tony, he's doing a CNC conversion on a "CNC" mill that could only do one direction at a time due to some crazy gearbox and electromagnetic clutch system!

I like strawberries ...... but they do not agree with me ... was allergic to 'em big time as a kid and thought i'd grown out of it ... can cope with the odd few ... but a dish full three nights on the trot is apparently 'pushing it' ..... had a major reaction to 'em, couple of nights ago, so they'm back off the menu again

found her this morning throwing her slipper at a crow, from the patio o_O.... was after the cherries on her newly planted (well last year it was) cherry tree :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
