and if that was coming out, might as well 'go for it' and give it the works ... this collection took some getting out .. getting at some of 'em was interesting
WP_20200516_14_10_04_Pro.jpg

capture plates on the outer ends and splittys inside ..

but they all came out, as did their pins ....
WP_20200516_15_04_59_Pro.jpg

the one was a right little bar steward, due to the belly plate being bent and had to be the most awkward of the eight in there ... :(
belly plate getting some remedial 'treatment' ... after i'd juggled it all apart ..
WP_20200516_15_13_08_Pro.jpg

courtesy of the VA-r, a 24" adjustable and a lump of 76 mil CHS ........ with me bouncing up and down on it ... not as heavy as I was :unsure:
plate straightened, the body got sat down on the bench and I needed some help extricating the one jaw from t'other ... gonna be interesting getting em knitted back together after
WP_20200516_15_18_44_Pro.jpg

time to see what we had to deal with ........
the body's bushes had all been trying to escape ....

WP_20200516_15_54_41_Pro.jpg

WP_20200516_15_54_50_Pro.jpg

so they got cleaned up and 'persuaded' back into spot ..
WP_20200516_16_08_29_Pro.jpg

much better ... also explained why the tongs were tight coming out of the body
WP_20200516_16_08_41_Pro.jpg

all back in place ...
WP_20200516_16_37_23_Pro.jpg

and the body cleaned off, I had a look for a couple of cracks I could see starting to appear under the head plate ... get them welded up, whilst it's apart

pins all cleaned off and bit of fettling on one that'd obviously seen the business end of a lump hammer, at some point in its life ....
WP_20200516_17_53_23_Pro.jpg

and went around the body with a four and half inch Makita dealing with all the sharps, dints and raggy bits that are just right for ripping the unwary's skin on ..

pins/bushes are serviceable ..... if I had a lathe I'd consider some swaps ... but I ain't, :( so'll have to wait ...... claen, fettle and sort the tongs tomorrow and I can re-assemble it ........ whilst i can recall what goes where :giggle: ..... then the ram ...

WP_20200516_20_18_52_Pro.jpg

Grease passage has been cross-drilled through the threads for some sort of back-up lynch-pin? So no grease where it is needed possibly?

Great tear down of yer Cranab. When we do stuff like this we always find more stuff that needs doing
Love the way that you fettle things and apply some loving 'tish' - where did that term come from? You'll get me saying it next :ROFLMAO:
What's the plan with the leaking ram? Are you going to rebuild it with a seal kit?

"everything looks better with a coat of shiny sh1t " is the original saying Dave

the ram is almost certainly going to need a gland seal ... this un's probably split or gone hard ... I'd guess split by the amount of leaking Plantohyd.

Will hopefully be able to get the lads in Raglan to source me one, but depends on what the rest is like ... it always 'bit' well, so no bypassing issues .. last time I used it, which is a while ago in anger ... just the odd use since. .... dare say there'll be an O ring and 'praps a couple of seals in the gland.

Want to get the rest back together first ... will clear the bench of bits, with it back in one lump and save me having to strain the memory, as to HTF it went together ... not many bits, but are sequentially put together

as for the fettle ... makes sense to protect yer hands from risk of getting ripped to bits and makes it look a lot less beaten up ... like stuff looking tidy

I`m looking for one for my Kramer loader, 6 foot would be spot on, I had spotted on ebay with the correct brackets as well, but this covid 19 stuff hit, was in my watch list but it been sold.
I was going to start a thread on here for suggestions on different manufactures, as some look flimsy.

WP_20200517_12_35_27_Pro.jpg

set about the tongs .... got 'em cleaned and de-greased, 'fore the grinder had a turn ...
WP_20200517_13_11_15_Pro.jpg

WP_20200517_13_16_01_Pro.jpg

looks like some one has had to disc a pin out of the ram at some time ... obviously not heard of thin discs ...:mad:
wp_20200517_14_39_18_pro-jpg.15140

welded up the cracks ...
WP_20200517_15_12_36_Pro.jpg

ground the outer welds back to 'invisible', second coated the body and refitted the head, which had a coat yesterday evening on the bench in me box ..;)
WP_20200517_18_56_18_Pro.jpg

then it was these two's turn for a coat .... would've liked to have had some original colour for them, but no such luck :( ... so ...
WP_20200517_20_26_01_Pro.jpg

Druid gold it was .... an original colour coat'd drop on top of this easy enough, if i can acquire some at some future point
WP_20200517_20_26_10_Pro.jpg

but for now .... it'll be fine and means that I can crack on reassembling ..... this stuff dries bloody quick :giggle:
WP_20200517_20_26_20_Pro.jpg

should be able to chuck the majority of it together tomorrow ... after me hamster juice .. then I can see what Mr Ram's problem is
