Druid,

I've just worked out what you are up to here.

I few days / wks ago the was a video of a guy who had put a motor scooter engine & wheel on a barrow with a platform on the back which he stood on to drive it.

You always think big, you have a trailer and you have a Gold Wing.

The secret is out, we await the video of the 100mph ‘Trailer Barrow’ in a few days time with great anticipation. 😄😄😄😄

that lil' project hasn't worked its way up the list yet ..... but it's an interesting suggestion ..... I do have a couple of Z1000ST motors sat about .. well a couple of complete Z1000STs actually :giggle::giggle::unsure: ... was considering trike-ing one for Pam

just got started this morning and we got a.n.other delivery we've been waiting for ... 'least our fish have ... new grub supplies for 'em ... local source hasn't had any for weeks and we were just about out, so ordered some on line and got 'em delivered to Vicki ... been sat a couple of days 'isolating', so they got brought up this morning .. with a surprise ... :giggle:

WP_20200409_12_26_52_Pro.jpg

Clara'd rather see us at a distance for a while than not at all ... and she got a run around ...:)

WP_20200409_12_33_34_Pro.jpg

dress was one of Vicki's 'old stock' bridesmaid's dresses ... Clara loves it :giggle:
fish food's quarantined in a shed for now ;)

so after they'd had a run around, some distant Granny time and had left, I got back to it ... picked up the trailer bed again and got the new cross member in place ....

WP_20200409_14_17_20_Pro.jpg

sadly, too breezy again for the MIG, so stick it was .... having got that on I turned my attention to a couple of lift eyes for the front chassis rails ... M20 x 3t eye nuts ... with a stud threaded into the end plates, then welded to the plates and the eyes, screwed on and then welded too ... they ain't coming off the plates ;)

WP_20200409_18_51_00_Pro.jpg

and the plates ain't coming off the chassis rails after I'd squared 'em up and gotten 'em clean and tidy for welding .. had to grind the welds back in places to avoid the lower chassis guide plates, but believe me ... penetration was full depth :giggle: and put an extra gusset plate in the toes too.(y)
coat of shiny sh1t before tea ...

WP_20200409_18_50_25_Pro.jpg

and a good square up after, before dropping it back down for the night ...

WP_20200409_19_00_56_Pro.jpg

which has high-lighted another issue ....

WP_20200409_19_32_41_Pro.jpg

serious pin (and eye) :giggle:wear in the rear hinges ... :(

without the new cross member, when it was sat down it rested on the the centre-ish cross member which lifted the tip bearings and allowed it to sit on the front member ... now it doesn't quite overcome the balance, unless it has some weight at the front .. so could well be some new pins (and probably bore the eyes out to take summat larger), to overcome the wear  ... the one pin looks like it's gonna have to 'die' to get the damned thing out anyway :(.. and t'other one's like a **ick in a bucket ... no issues getting that one out
means I can lift the body off and over for an easier paint job and sort this issue at the same time ... see what I can do tomorrow ........ after I've sorted the jack leg out ... I have a plan for that now ;):giggle:

will also make life a lot easier to have a look at the brake linkages, with the body out the way and a bare chassis to work on (y)

great to hear Boris is out of ICU this evening (y)(y):giggle::cool:

I take it the lift eyes are for a wire rope for tipping??
that or a pair of chains Ollie .... I'm in a bit of a dilemma about what oil to refill it with .... 'Drema is on bio ... me dumper, jake, etc., are on mineral and I'll have a. n. other tow unit shortly too, which'll be mineral, so have fitted them to be able to lift it, if it gets mineral in it. It'd only be a very infrequent tip anyway.

I’d go with the wire, did put some pics up on the last forum of how they do it over there, and it was what I was thinking off at one point, will try and find them. As for oil, no point contaminating the Drema, so I’d just stick mineral in, and it’s a lot cheaper😀.

These are them, from about 8/9 years ago😱....very simple and obvious idea with out having to tap into any pipe work....lot of the new ducks coming out now have all the pipe work as standard, but back then it was a nitemare trying to get it fitted onto the machine, so a nice and simple solution, especially for mini diggers

So of you're lifting it by chain what do you do about tipping ram assuming it's still in place

You just disconnect it, the majority of them have grippers on there tiltys so just that, or your pallet forks, you could even weld a hook onto your buckets so you could hook onto it instead. Also the wire rope works better than chains cos it’s able to stay up making it easier to get hold of.

Yeah get that but if you're wanting to tip it using hydraulics off something else as well?

I really like the trailer pictures, never used one in conjunction with the excavator. I might weld a tab on and give it a go with the little garden trailer. Are you allowed to use one with a tracked machine?👀

In that case you’d just rig it up so that you took a pin out from the ram, maybe like a leaver type set up or something, that would just pull it out.....something similar to what you find on the back of grain lorry with the small hatch, as long as it pivots and there’s plenty of grease I’m sure that would work.
